I have an older HDTV that does not have HDMI. How do I connect the Apple TV. I know you can use a HDMI-DVI cable but what about sound? Any recommendations?
The big challenge, in addition to sound, is going to be HDCP. In order to minimize copyright infringement (copying) HDCP handshake via the HDMI connection is required. This is needed for Netflix, rented HD material etc. iTunes streaming will still work though.
Some have mentioned finding HDMI to component conversion boxes on eBay that work, but I have no experience in this area.
Yes, you are always taking a risk with this when you go the conversion route, some are compliant but you really have to make sure you can return it if it doesn't work.
I have Samsung DLP TV that is only 5 years old and no HDMI port. I did purchase a HDMI to DVI cable from the Apple Store and an Optical Cable for the sound. The only problem is that the sound does not match the talking--drives me nuts. It is like a split second behind. Anyone have any suggestions or solutions?
