Why did a lock and circular arrow icon appear on my iPhones status bar?

A new icon poped up in my status bar a couple of minutes ago. I don't know what it means, though you guys would know. its like the lock icon but with a round arrow going round it pointing clockwise. its near the battery icon, left of it.

anyone know what it is i'd appreciate your help, thanks.
