Keyboard dock not working on iPad but flawless on iPhone, plz help me

Hi,

I've looked for help on this but couldn't find an answer so I thought I'd just ask.

I've recently bought a refurbished keyboard docking station on ebay. It worked for about half an hour and now it does nothing. I got the 'not supported with iPad' error message and since then nada.

I want to complain to the seller as I believed it was faulty but my iPhone works flawlessly on it every time. I'm baffled on what could be the problem. It isn't my iPad, I bought new 2 weeks ago and it works fine with everything else. I've tried the reset everything and still nothing.

If anyone had this problem and resolved, please share the info. I can't call apple for a replacement as mentioned before, I bought on ebay. I just really want it to works.

Nevermind, I misunderstood the question...

Have you tried restarting your MacBook though?

Why would I restart my MacBook? Did you mean iPad? If so, I tried to restart it but still doesn't work.

My iPad is also jail broken. I'm not sure if this could be the problem, I hope not.

Well, I wouldn't even start to speculate on what may be an issue with a jailbroken iPad, perhaps there are support forums on the site, or the individual that suggested jailbreaking.
But no, I did mean restarting the MacBook. USB ports can get iffy, and a restart sometimes clears their issues.
I would strongly suggest restoring your device so that it is not jailbroken. You won't be able to get good support, except around the jailbreaking forums.

Just to be clear, I don't have a problem with jailbreaking, it's just rather hard to diagnose a problem when there are other unknowns around..
This forum may also have rules regarding jailbroken equipment.

I will restore my ipad and try to use without the jailbreak. I didn't know jailbreak was still an issue. It is of cause legal now and the users own personal choice. But yes, I will try the restore as I'd prefer to have a working keyboard than a jailbreak. Thanks.

Hi All!
I dont normally comment on these forums, but after 2 weeks of trail and error (with great frustration as some of the docks have never worked) with different ipads and keyboard docks in the office, with have found a solution to make the ipad and keyboard dock work. There is a design fault with the keyboard dock. It allows the ipad to sit to far back braeking the electrical connection at the bottom.

We simply inserted a plastic 12 inch ruler between the dock and the back of the ipad to make the ipad stand upright more. Hey presto! Keyboard dock works on all three Ipads. Now just have to find something a little more permanent and sexy looking than the ruler!

Its worked for all of us, hope it works for you too!

Just an update, tilting the ipad forward too much gives the keyboard a good connection, but the charging facility drops out. Use 1 inch masking tape and wrap it around the vertical part of the keyboard dock which the ipad leans against. This way u can achieve a good balance between the two connections, any u cant see the tape when the ipad is docked!

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately no matter how I try to position the iPad, it still doesn't respond. I'm going to keep at it but it would be a waste if I kept having to find 'the spot' every time I wanted to use it.

I also tried it with my iPod touch as well as the iPhone and they still work fine. I restored & updated my iPad to the latest firmware through iTunes so the jailbreak was not problem. I cannot believe this!

we just tried it on both the iphone and jail broken ipad. Both worked fine. The way we found the sweet spot was to put your iphone on and the angle that rests at is the angle the ipad needs to be at. about 5mm forward of the atcual stand. 37 people have said this works for them in the last hour. I actually hope u havent got an actual fault with the keyboard. ps u cant hold the keybaord in position, its needs to rest against something for the pressure at the bottom. Thats wat we tried to start with, holding it forward and it didnt work. Its only when it has pressure. but im guessing u probaly have tried everything. Just like us. We were so frustrated, but with a digital oscilliscope we manged to find the right angle. Sorry if this go ur hopes up!
