Q: Keeping local media

Opinions please.....I have been uploading old projects to FCSvr as productions. These projects are all shot on HDV and we do the upload with the footage transcoded to ProRes 422 proxy, which is actually a higher data rate than HDV. The FCSvr is storing to the library on an internal Raid 1 device. All the original HDV tapes are stored. Is there any reason to keep the local versions of these projects?

It depends on the level of redundancy vs risk vs restoration downtime you are comfortable with.

The best scenario would be to back up that RAID 1 offsite. Having it scattered around local drives is an OK alternative but may be a management hassle to reload everything. Recapturing from HDV is possible but will take a long time.
