import photos from source other than iphoto

Is there a way to import photos to imovie from a source other than iphoto or photo booth? I have a cd of pics that i'd like to use but I'd rather not import all the pics to iphoto if I don't have to.

Put them in a folder in the Finder. Then drag them from the Finder into iMovie.

Wow; I can drag the photos from the Finder directly into my project. I actually tried this, but I tried dragging them into the lower pane with all the source clips. That won't work, but if you drag the photos into the top pane where your edited work is it magically adds the photo(s). Thanks for the tip!

I dragged my photo containing folder into the iMovie photo pane and ALL the photos disappeared but the folder remained.
What is going on?

Do not do that. Drag the photo or photos that you need into the Project. The Photo pane is for iPhoto or Aperture.

Thank you AppleMan. This action cost me a lots of time lost but I did retain the original photos.

OMG, thank you for the best advice ever! now i don't have to wait for my iphoto library to load forever to access the photos!
