JVC GY-HM100e support for Final Cut express.

Hi has anyone managed to import video files from a JVC GY-HM100e camcorder into final cut express 4 besides using the composite video out into a video capture box. I have tried also with StreamClip but this degrades the video. This camera records in MP2 with a long GOP & has a .mov wrap.
Cheers
Anthony.

Nice cam.:-)
I have not used one but have just read through some specs.
this is my 2 cents :

Most of the tapeless cameras shoot in various formats data rates and frame rates.
Yours does at least the following:

•Full HD recording (selectable)
•1920 x 1080 (1080p24/25/30, 1080i)
•1280 x 720P (p60/50/30/25/24)

The trick is to record in a format that works directly in FCE.
All HD stuff is ingested to only one FCE codec, AIC (Apple Intermediate codec).
The first thing to set in FCE is the Easy Setup. There are a bunch of them and only one will be correct to match the camera footage that you wish to ingest.

The 1080i, 720P 25 or 30 are options that have a chance working directly in FCE. Probably best to limit the data rate to 25Mbps or less. Read the FCE Easy Setup dialogue info to match FCE and Camera footage, then try to capture.
I notice there is no firewire connection only USB? This may further restrict what works with what, so jump in and experiment.

If you have FCPro things are much more compatible.
