Rosetta install fails

I have tried installing Rosetta two different ways (from SL install disk optional installs and by just trying to run an app that requires it). Both have failed. Any help figuring out what is wrong would be greatly appreciated.

When trying to run the install from the SL disk, I get an error message "The installation failed." with the contents "The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." Console Messages shows these entries:

12/20/10 3:06:25 PM Installer[91549] <ZeroSliderSplitView: 0x1006f9690>: the delegate <TargetSelectPage: 0x1002f8620> was sent -splitView:resizeSubviewsWithOldSize: and left the subview frames in an inconsistent state:

12/20/10 3:06:25 PM Installer[91549] The outer edges of the subview frames are supposed to line up with the split view's bounds' edges. NSSplitView is working around the problem, perhaps at the cost of more redrawing. (This message is only logged once per NSSplitView.)

When I try installing Rosetta by installing an app, it goes to Software Update, finds the software, then tries to install it and I get these entries in Console Messages:

I get the same exact message when trying to install itunes,

The outer edges of the subview frame are supposed to line up with the split view's bound edges. NSSplitView is working around...

Maybe this issue has something to do with the installer code being broken, and not the package?

FWIW - my system just hangs on validating packages. that's the last console message.
