wifi issues due to IOS update 4.2.1

Recently I updated my ipod 3rd generation to IOS 4.2.1 and have encountered some wifi problems. Here's a disription of the problems my ipod is experiencing.
-when I connect to the internet it only stays connected for 2-3 minutes.
-my ipod no longer connects to the internet automatically and must be reconnected by turning the wifi off then turning it on again.
-connection is established to networks very slowly as well(regardless of the fact that I've been trying to connect 3 feet away from my router)

I'm sure the problem is the 4.2.1 update. I've turned my ipod on and off, reset network settings, and checked my router. Plus the problem didn't start until I installed the update to the ipod.

So does anyone here know how I can revert my ipod back to IOS 4.1 or something and I mean ANYTHING that will get my wifi working again. I would wait for a 4.3 update but I'll be out and about this christmas season and I would like to be able to have reliable wifi.

It works at your parents, it works at Starbucks, it doesn't work on your network. That kind of points to your router doesn't it.

Try the following with your own network:
1. Reboot your router
2. Look for upgrades to the firmware. If none are available and your router is > 3 years, spend the money and replace it.
3. If you are still using WEP, upgrade your encryption to WPA2.

It's not the firmware. Try the following steps and see if it will connect properly:

1. Restart your touch - hold the Sleep/Wake button down until you see the slider and turn it off.
2. Reboot your router - unplug the A/C power to do this.
3. Turn your touch back on - it may connect at this point and if it does, tap the blue ">" next to the network name and see if you have the normal operating IP addresses (not 169.x).
4. If it doesn't connect, don't worry. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
5. When the touch restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other and re-enter your network name, security, and network password.

If you still have problems - Stop using WEP encryption and switch to WPA2; look for and install firmware updates for your router.

when apple delayed 4.2 earlier this year, the ipad had wifi issues. once they fixed the ipad issue, they released 4.2.1, but it seems to me like that bug still exists in 4.2.1, just not on the ipad. the reason I know about it is because I have a 2nd generation iPod touch, and it won't connect to my internet at home either. it does connect to AT&T wifi @ Starbucks, and my parents internet fine though, so that is just based upon my research so far. I even told my mom not to update her phone in case.

I also have this issue, the symptoms are:
1. I have 2 new ipod touch 4th 8GB, both connected to my wifi network, the brand of router is TP-Link WPA2 security, iOS 4.2.1 they both can be accessed to the internet.

2. but after about 10 minutes, the all the internet are disconnected but there're still full wifi signal icon on the bar.

3.maybe some time later, they will be connected automatically again.
4. I can access to the internet by switching on and off airplane mode / wifi /rebooting manually.

yes, both are brand new and the newest firmware, I think that must be an compatibly issue between ios 4.2.1 and router.

P.S.: my htc magic and 2 laptops (acer and asus) can be connected and accessed to the same router and internet very well.

I have an Ipod touch 32 GB, it is a little over 1 year old. I've never had a problem with my Ipod's WiFi until I updated to 4.2.1. Now It will still connect but the distance from my router is GREATLY reduced. Even if I'm 1 foot away from the router my Ipod doesn't show full signal strength. Also when it is connected it drops a lot. Especially if I launch and APP. All the other wireless devices on my network all work fine and show the same signal strength they always have so I know it is not my setup. The problem lies with my Ipod and it started after the 4.2.1 Update. I've tried resetting the whole device. I've tried resetting the wireless settings. the Ipod still thinks it has a weak signal and drops a lot. Is there anything else to do, or anyway I can roll back the Ipod's OS 1 version to when it worked just fine?

What I found was that when I switched from WEP (which I was using with the Rovio Robot) to WPA2 with a Belkin wifi router, both the iPhone 3GS and iPad running 4.2.1 iOS would lag when connected to the wifi. If I waited long enough the packets would go through. Resetting the wifi cleared it up for a couple of minutes but it would again lag.
I swapped routers to a Netgear wgr614v9 ( also using WPA2) my lag problems cleared up. Best $30 I spent,
