System freeze / GPU Debug Info Start

*What happens:*
Aperture keeps freezing my mac, I can move my mouse, but can't click anything. Keyboard doesn't seem to work at all. From time to time I get a beach ball instead of regular cursor. Nothing help, need to reset with a power button.

*When it happens*
When I work with RAW files around 20MB in size (don't know how about JPEG, don't have any). Nothing fancy, regular adjustments or when I send photos to flickr.

Log
Looking at console log I found something like this (started when everything stopped).

+kernel ** Device in slot: SLOT--1 **+
+kernel ** GPU Debug Info Start **+
+kernel 0x0000944a+
+kernel 0x000000cb+
....

Often Aperture becomes very slow. Sometimes it starts using my hard drive heavily and doesn't seem to stop even if I quit (I suppose it's some Aperture's background process, Aperture itself isn't showing in process list once I quit). Has anyone experienced something like this?

Welcome to the list. Make sure you read the [Help & Terms of Use|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa] section when you get a chance.

You're probably not going to get to many folks here who can get into GPU debugging. You might be better off trying one of the hardware related discussion groups, There are some dedicated to OS X and its software and some that deal with the hardware. Theres a group dedicated to iMacs.

One thing I can tell you is that Aperture doesn't fork off anything in the background. When the program quits its done. How long does the activity go on for? If its a few secs it could just be buffers being flushed, If its longer than that I would doubt its Aperture.

Same problem here ...
Apple Aperture Freezes and I have to kill my apple by holding down the powerbutton.
This is an absolute inacceptable Situation, but telephone support says that's not of their business. And Itunes Support, which I contaceted because of a money back request, are ignoring my concern so far
.
Aperture and Apple are really a big disappointment, my windows boxes never crashed that much not even back in the late 90ties.

I have downloaded this Aperture from the Apps store and since doing so yesterday it downloaded all my photos etc from iphoto and upon starting it up it will not boot in but just goes into not responding mode very frustrating any ideas how to resolve. I have 47 GB of photos that have been placed in the Aperture library

Did you find a solution?

This seems to be an increasingly common problem.

I have an ATI RAdeon HD 5670 doing the same lock-up while background processes continue. However I do not use Aperture and I am sure this is not limited to a specific software app.

Perhaps this happens to be when your system is most stressed or all your RAM is full. It can happen to me when opening several web pages in a Mozilla browser such as Firefox.

OK I'll look in more appropriate forums now...
