iPod Touch not responding to touch

My iPod Touch 1st generation stopped responding to my touch. Nothing happens when I touch the screen, so I cannot enter, nor can I shut it down (I had a password set up). Any ideas about what is wrong? Toss it, or get it fixed?

iPod Touch 1st generation, iPhone OS 3.1.3

I have restored the iPod twice but to no avail. I can't reset it unless I can enter the machine, but it won't let me.

what do you mean does it freeze on boot or freeze completely

If you successfully restored it to factory defaults and it still doe not work then you likely have a hardware problem. I wold make an appointment at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store.
