Reduce size of iPhoto Library

Reduce size of iPhoto Library

My iPhoto library grew to multiple Gig after adding a number of photos. I tried deleting all but one or two photos in the library but this doesn't reduce the size of the library file. Is there any way to reduce the size of this file?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

The Library is not a File, it's a Package, which is a Folder that looks like a file.

I tried deleting all but one or two photos

How? Put them in the iPhoto Trash +and empty it+ will work for default libraries.

ahh yes brilliant! I didn't realize that iPhoto trash was different than the Desktop Trash. That could also explain why I couldn't drag photos into it. Thank you so much.
