What you describe is just a copy & paste procedure from On my mac to MobileMe. This is described in detail here:

While this may work for some (for me it didn't as it returned with some errors [IMG]

In fact, the reason that you get duplicates it's a sign of problem. You should get only one set of entries, the same on MobileMe as it's on the On My Mac account. Then if you add a calendar entry into the On my mac account that should be synced to MobileMe. If you disable the On My Mac calendar all you're left is with the Mobileme account. And then when you create an event in mobileme it's being "sent" to mobileme servers. This is not called syncing it's called create. Syncing involves 2 parties (or two accounts) in our case On my mac (for every mac you have) and MobileMe.
