iCal doesn't sync with MobileMe Calendar

Good afternoon,

I am a first time MobileMe user.

I tried synchronizing my iCal to the MobileMe calendar with no success.

I even did a "Reset Data sync" + "Unregister computer" and other tricks but nothing happens.

Anyone experiencing same problem?

Thank you,

P

Also, I would like to mention that I followed the instructions given here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4340 about +"MobileMe: Setting up iCal for the new MobileMe Calendar"+. Unfortunately, I've got problem doing the Step 5 +"Open iCal. You should notice a new section in the iCal calendar list with your MobileMe member name as the name. If you don't see the new section, see Troubleshooting upgrading to the new MobileMe Calendar. Your current calendars should appear under the On My Mac section:"+ It just doesn't appear there..

Nope ! I have a different issue.... Mobile Me HAS the correct info. the IMac is not accepting the overwrite from Mobile Me. I have gone to preferences and selected iCal for syncing then I click advance to select the cloud to overwrite/replace what is on the computer.... and still it sill come up with an error, inconsistent data, check your acuracy...blah blah' I have eliminated the calendars folder from library as suggested but it populates a new iCal almost immediatelly.

So Mobile Me has the correct events in the 5 calendars there and is syncing to my Iphone... but not to my IMac or Macbook or Itouch.

How can I export what is on my iCal in Mobile Me and/or Iphone? If I Can secure it, I will try to maybe manually sync with Imac thru Itunes... but I am afraid the Imac's iCal might overwrite the Iphone then I will have nothing.

When I was in Library - I noticed alot of folders related to 'Sync'...?? anything I can do with them>?

I am upgrading from Leopard to SnowLeopard this week and hoping that will resolve issue but it was a cost I really wasn't hoping for.

Bab-eh,

Updating to the current OS will help - I hope!

The other thing I found was to take things slowly.
For example, turn off all your syncing and leave your machines alone for an hour or so to make sure the servers have got the message. Restart things; really tell it you don't want to sync. Wag your finger etc etc, all the things that make us feel better when dealing with machines!

Then turn on syncing again one device at a time and see how it goes.

I'm really disappointed the way this is not working smoothly for users - Apple have let us down.

Thanks Tim.
I think your right about the walking away, giving it time to settle with the servers. The thought has entered my mind but I have a hard time implementing it... I will do today. Upgrade arrives on the 26th so until then .... wagging fingertips it is.

Apple has let us down, perhaps, but I cannot phatham going back to a PC but considering taking the Apple Tech course to learn more about the precious little systems. I know, just more money heading their way - but I hate with things are not smoooth - and silky.

What you describe is just a copy & paste procedure from On my mac to MobileMe. This is described in detail here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4340

While this may work for some (for me it didn't as it returned with some errors this doesn't insure a proper sync between on my mac created calendar and mobileme.

In fact, the reason that you get duplicates it's a sign of problem. You should get only one set of entries, the same on MobileMe as it's on the On My Mac account. Then if you add a calendar entry into the On my mac account that should be synced to MobileMe. If you disable the On My Mac calendar all you're left is with the Mobileme account. And then when you create an event in mobileme it's being "sent" to mobileme servers. This is not called syncing it's called create. Syncing involves 2 parties (or two accounts) in our case On my mac (for every mac you have) and MobileMe.

I just solved this problem today with the help of AppleChat.

After you hit the "+" to add an account, type your mobileme ID into both the description and username fields, then add your password, then in the server options type "https://cal.me.com"

Hit the add button and your iCal calendar should populate with your mobileme data!

Worked for me - good luck

Adding another account as you instructed was JUST the ticket that solved my problem. I had entered appointments on my iPhone and they synced with MobileMe online fine but not on my laptop iCal. I ended up with two accounts and two duplicates of the appointments. I simply deleted the duplicate account I created under your instructions. It seems that just adding an account (even though I already had one that should have been working) refreshed the syncing process into working order.

Thanks so much for your suggestion!

I lost the accounts I had made in iCal after I allowed the MobileMe calendar to sync with my home mac. I was able to restore the accounts to my home mac's iCal by following intructions in this area of Apple support.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4330

also see:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4038

Start on that page and read along to find your particular situation. You will need a different solution depending on whether your computer is running OSX 10.6 or a version of OSX 10.5, as I was.
The important thing is, I was able to get my calendar accounts back. Good luck!

That doesn't work!
What Drop Down Menu? I click ADD ACCOUNT and it asks for a Description. I've tried iCal, Calenrers< my Mobileme/Apple ID name & p/w and I get NO OPEN DIRECTORY SERVERS CONFU=IGURED. Use directory utility to set up. But that also tells me I have no Servers configured. GREAT! To set up a server I have to have a server.
Lovely logic Apple!
I am beginning to HATE Apple!

Try this (not my idea). Got it from another post and it seems to have restored my Calenders.

1) Open iCal Preferences.
2) Click Accounts.
3) Click the plus button at the bottom of the page.
4) For both Description and Username, enter your full MobileMe email address, including @me.com or @mac.com. If you don't include @me.com or @mac.com, the setup will not be successful.
5) Enter your MobileMe password.
6) Click the disclosure triangle next to Server Options.
7) For Account URL, enter the following without quotes: "https://cal.me.com". Be sure to include the full URL, including the "https://". Note that you do not need to include a closing "/" at the end of the url.
8) Click Add.

Remember the https. I missed the "s" the first time and was about to slash my wrists.
