iCal doesn't sync with MobileMe Calendar

Good afternoon,

I am a first time MobileMe user.

I tried synchronizing my iCal to the MobileMe calendar with no success.

I even did a "Reset Data sync" + "Unregister computer" and other tricks but nothing happens.

Anyone experiencing same problem?

Thank you,

P

Also, I would like to mention that I followed the instructions given here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4340 about +"MobileMe: Setting up iCal for the new MobileMe Calendar"+. Unfortunately, I've got problem doing the Step 5 +"Open iCal. You should notice a new section in the iCal calendar list with your MobileMe member name as the name. If you don't see the new section, see Troubleshooting upgrading to the new MobileMe Calendar. Your current calendars should appear under the On My Mac section:"+ It just doesn't appear there..

Others have tried to answer this in other threads.

I have stepped it out more so it might help everyone with this problem as I had this problem too until I figured it out.

Go to iCal
Under iCal menu open Preferences
The tabs up the top will show General, Accounts and Advanced
Choose Accounts
You need to add a new account in the left hand column
Click the + sign at bottom left to add a new account
Under Account Type, you may be able to leave it to the default of Automatic, but I selected MobileMe from the drop down menu
Enter your MobileMe user name and password
Select Create and wait for it all to work.

Phew, iCal is working properly now! I hope it helps

This link describes how to reset up your iphone too

I'm trying everything now, iCal isn't syncing with MobileMe. When I try to add an account in iCal the dialogue box asks me for Description, Username and Password; when I enter my mobile me info I get another dialogue box saying "No Open Directory servers configured. Configure one or more Open Directory servers using Directory Utility, or use an explicit Account URL."
It just gets worse. Surely there's a simple fix for this.

Help much appreciated.

After getting new phones this week and and syncing them to iCal with iSync and mobile me, I was elated. My elation took a bad turn when I went on mobile me and they asked me to upgrade the iCal and I did. My wife and I use two computer, MAC Pro, MAC Book Pro, IPad and run a business with a common calendar. When mobile me switched to @me.com to keep our mac devices synchronize it rendered iSync useless, it cannot connect to the @me.com. I know you can post a calendar by exporting it but with 3 mac devices and 2 phones that becomes a disastrous solution to keep everything in sync. Anybody with a better solution. Also the 2 phones Nokia 5230 are not on the internet so iSync was the perfect solution.

@Bodie10
Try deleting the current MobileMe Account from the same Preferences: Accounts pane in iCal, leave it for an hour or so, then go back and recreate it.

You shouldn't need to configure anything in the right hand pane, which is the only place I could find reference to Description, Username and Password. If you create a new account by hitting the + sign at the bottom of the left hand pane, then selecting MobileMe from the drop down menu, all I thought you need to add is your MobileMe username and password. That's all I did on my G4 PB using 10.5.8 like your system is. iCal sorted out the rest of the entries.

If this doesn't work, check in the server settings pane that Automatically Discover server address is ticked.

There is a workaround described for 10.5.x users somewhere in these discussions that you may find better information.

@Ron77
I feel your pain!

I've got 3 Macs, an iPhone and an iPad all syncing with MobileMe and using 10.5 and 10.6, so it CAN work. Have you tried setting up iCal with MobileMe, or have you just tried to use iSync and found that not to work?

Throwing in your mobile phones into the mix is beyond my knowledge; maybe get iPhones..... Sorry, not helpful I know.

i am having the same issue. just signed up for Mobileme for the first time today. followed all instructions and ical not syncing with Mobileme. tried all the troubleshooting and forum suggestions. lastly when i am try to add account to ical, (there is only the left section, no right one) it asks for description, username and password. no drop down list to select mobileme. i get the same 'no open directory' message. ugh.

Exactly the same problem, just bought 2nd mac, finally decided mobileme might be a good idea. However after hours wasted, ical on macbook will not sync with mobileme. This is the most comprehensive set of possible instructions I found:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1614369

Didn't work for me (got to step 11/12 and neither ical nor contacts synced new test data), but perhaps it will help someone else.

Along with find my iphone giving error messages all the time about wrong password or username (both are correct) I am totally unimpressed with the syncing abilities of Apple at the moment. Going to try Chronosync for my macs and go back to the wire for my iphone, and I will take much persuading to ever try mobileme again.

I'm also having difficulty syncing my iCal to MM. I just updated to the "new" MM and it's fully not syncing. Any calendar that's under the "On My Mac" section will not sync. The only thing that syncs is the calendar under my @me.com account. This is fine if I add things on my iPhone but does not help with 99% of my calendars. It won't even sync my birthdays calendars. I'm really frustrated by this. If anyone has any suggestions for me I'd appreciate it. I've tried everything that I can find in the help menu and the forums. This is the first time i've been this baffled by something that i think should be really straight forward for Apple.

Yep, same here Nikmak,

Anyone have news on how to rectify this?

Both Ical's info were wipped from the IMac 10.5.8 and the Macbook upon upgrading ICal. The Iphone is connecting to MobileMe and there is all events and calendars safe. But how can I get them onto my Desktop & MacBook?

It is syncing an Entourage calendar... I have not used entourage for over a year! hhmm.

In the SYNC, I asked MobileME to REPLACE my IMac calendar - but that didnt work either.

hope someone comes up with a solution.

The birthdays calendar is generated from your contacts. So you need to make sure that you are syncing your contacts to mobileme and turn on the birthdays calendar through the web interface at www.me.com.

RE: 'On My Mac' calendars. From what I can tell you need to import them into Calendars on MM. Select the calendar in the 'On My Mac' that you want on MM. Click on File-Export-Export and save the calendar where you will know where it is at. Click on a calendar in your MM section of iCal and create another calendar (you can use the original name or a new one). Then click on the new 'Empty' Calendar and select File-Import-Import and select the file you exported from earlier. This should put all the information from your old calendar in MM and will then be able to sync across all of your devices.

Hope this helps.

This worked for me . . . I took every calendar in iCal I had in "On My Mac" and exported them. Then I created a new calendar for each one in my iCal "me.com" acct. I imported the On My Mac calendars to the new me.com calendars and I now have data populating to my MM account on the web.

Thank you for the key . . . I've been trying to figure this out for weeks.

(Don't forget to deselect the calendars in On My Mac so you don't see them twice in your iCal on your MAC).
