Multitasking for voice memo doesn't work on 4.2.1

I upgraded from 4.0 to 4.2.1 and now multitasking no longer works for my voice memo app. All other multitasking works except for this. This is really frustrating when I record a class lecture and then want to listen to it and watch power point slides at the same time and cannot.

I have canceled all other apps running in background
Hard reset the phone
Reinstalled iTunes/restored my device

Any other ideas, or is this a feature apple decided to discontinue with out telling me?

I am able to multitask with the Voice Memo app.

Try Resetting All Settings from Settings> General> Reset.

Can the iPhone multitask with it after setting the iPhone up as a new device?
Try restoring your iPhone from another user account or disconnecting the iPhone before choosing to setup as new or restore from backup, that way you can test it like it was restored and setup as new without overwriting a previous iPhone backup.

Hey thanks for the response, I did try both this things. I checked my wides iPhone also to see if it's a problem with just mine and I could not multitask on hers either, or my brothers-all of which are operating on 4.2.1 Has the feature been taken away or is this the weirdest coincidence ever?

Just to be clear of what I'm talking about, I open voice memo app (default one that comes with the phone) play a recording that I have previously recorded. Then I hit the home button to get out of the app and open an email and it stops playing the recording.

It did not do that on 4.0, I'm kind of sorry I upgraded if this is a software rendition by apple

Any more ideas anyone?

Discovered a workaround for this issue of not being able to multi task and have a voice memo keep playing while doing something else on your iphone...

Just press the blue arrow on whatever single voice memo you want to keep playing in the background...it'll take you to the info screen...and then hit "trim memo" ( you dont have to actually trim it)...and then just press the play button on that screen....The memo will play in the back ground while you switch to another program!....It seems stupid that you cant do it directly but its a simple way to make it work

Hi everyone,

I think I found a solution for this annoying problem under iOs5.

You start to play back your voice memo and then hit the lock screen button. Next you press the home button and instead of sliding the bar you start your camera, it will come up then you press the home button again so you land on your main screen...

Hope it will do it for you!
