How do I get the app my friend gifted me?

He said he spent his last dollar on it. He lost a dollar and we have no idea where the app is, was i suppose to get an email or notification about recieving the app?

Everyone here is just a fellow user, participating as they have time, inclination and knowledge. No one gets paid to provide support here, so it often may take more than the time you've allowed for someone to reply. I understand the desire for a quick answer, but you need to have patience. Demanding help and complaining will just irritate people and make them less inclined to want to assist.

As to your question, it depends on what option your friend chose. If he elected to send the gift via email, you should have received an email with a code to be redeemed through your iTunes Store account. Check any spam filters on your email application or on your account with your ISP and make sure the email hasn't been blocked. If that doesn't seem to be the case, have your friend confirm your email address and if it's correct send the email again (this can be done via the listing for the app in his Purchase History).

He might have also elected to print the gift himself, in which case he'd have to mail it to you.

This of course presumes that he's also in the US. Someone outside of the US cannot give you a gift through the iTunes Store.

Regards.

Hi, Dave. I was having the same problem, but thanks to your response, found the gift app from my son in the junk folder. Now...can you tell me what to do next? He sent me a game to play on my new iPad. How do I go from the email to getting the app on the iPad? Do I have to connect the iPad to the laptop - and do I do that before or after I download the app.

Everything Apple is new to me. 🙂

Hi, Diane,

Unless things have changed, what your received is a code to redeem to get the app you've been gifted. You can find instructions on redeeming the code here, among other places:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1917

Once you download the app, you then sync it to your iPad as normal.

You can also redeem the code directly from your iPad, if you wish. Launch the App Store app, make sure it's on the Featured page, and go to the bottom of the page and you'll find a Redeem button.

Regards.

Hi

Leon Techno

You should have gotten an e-mail from your friend, notifying you of the gift. Note that this e-mail/gift MUST be to your Apple Store e-mail.

Once you get the e-mail, there should be a button within it to "Redeem" the gift. Press the button, you'll get directed to the App Store where you'll sign in. Once you sign in, the app should begin to download.

Hope that helps.

Hello, Jai,

Did you notice that the post to which you replied was made almost two years ago? You also just reiterated what I said back these many months ago. While I'm sure you wished to help, I'd recommend in the future that you read a thread fully and carefully before you reply so as to avoid giving redundant, obsolete or inapplicable advice.
