Not sure what you mean by data rate level.

If the Multicast Rate level is set too high on the Time Capsule, it would not allow a "slower" device to connect. That should not be a problem with a newer laptop.

Check the Multicast Rate setting on the Time Capsule and set it as low as possible.

Maybe a PC guy will read this and offer a translation for us. Google says data rate is simply the speed at which information is transferred.

The Radio Mode of the Time Capsule controls the speed of the network. But, I'm sure that it is already set in a compatible setting like 802.11n/g/b. That would allow virtually any device to connect.

You might want to try the AirPort for Windows Forum, where the PC guys hang out.

Hi Tesserax

I thought this might be the real issue and asked about it early in the thread. The response indicated that this step had already been performed and the laptop still would not connect.

It's not possible to assign a different name to the 5 GHz component of the Guest Network, but maybe the PC is seeing a conflicting signal with the same SSID at both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. I'm not sure how to work around that since separate naming is not supported on the Guest Network.

Sorry about asking the same question twice. (Thanks Bob)

I would suggest trying some basic troubleshooting to, hopefully, uncover the problem with why the Vista PC is having difficulty connecting to the TC's Guest Network.

To start, let's use Vista's built-in "automatic" troubleshooter.
o Start > Start Search
o Type in: ncpa.cpl, and then, press <Enter>
o Select the active connection. This should be the PC's wireless adapter.
o Select "Reset the network adapter <Connection Name>"

Please post back your results.
