Extreme Crashes Wifi Networking in Wired Mode Only, After Power Failure
Network Topology prior to power failure:
1. Time Capsule as wireless N bridge to third party wired home gigE router; connected via hardline ethernet
2. Airport Extreme extending Time Capsule; connected via hardline ethernet
3. Airport Express extending Time Capsule; connected via wireless
4. Airport Express extending Time Capsule; connected via wireless
After the power failure I cannot get the wireless network to function if the Extreme is connected directly to the wired network. If it's allowed to connect wirelessly everything works fine. As soon as I plug the ethernet cable into the Extreme, the entire wireless network is non-responsive. It recovers momentarily after I pull the cable.
The ethernet cable itself is fine. When I plug in a laptop I see the wired network, get DHCP, etc.
Any suggestions on troubleshooting? Some kind of packet collision on the wired network between the Time Capsule and the Extreme? Save the config on the Extreme, factory reset, and see if I can set it up as a new wifi network when connected to the wired network? Uggh.
My understanding is that I want the Extreme connecting via the wired network to reduce the number of wireless hops for throughput, but feel free to tell me I'm wasting my time if I am.
Thanks much.
