Custom Ringtones Show Up in iTunes Folder, but Not on iPhone

I've recently upgraded from a 3GS to a 4G. I have a few custom ringtones that I created from .MP3 files (converted to .m4r files). I had these same ringtones installed on my 3GS and want them on my 4G.

I transferred to my 4G by dragging them from the Windows folder to the iTunes device folder. The 5 ringtones show up in iTunes under the Ringtones folder. Only one of them shows up on the phone as being transferred.

I had done this a couple of days ago, and noticed then that only one ringtone was being shown under Custom Ringtones on my phone. Tonight, I uninstalled them all, rebooted my phone, and then re-dragged the files as per above. Again, all show up in the folder on the iPhone in iTunes, but one shows up on the phone. This is now a different one than a couple of days ago.

Soooo... what can be causing this? The files are apparently on my phone, but not appearing in the usable list. I need some help in resolving this. I've looked through these forums and seen similar issues. There doesn't seem to be a 'proper' way to do this. I manage my phone manually, and have not done a 'sync' with the ringtones as they show up in the folder... (I don't really see the need to sync if they're appearing in iTunes as on the phone).

Thanks!

I've just tried adding my first custom ringtone to my iPhone 4 and it won't transfer to the device.

I see it in my iTunes as a ringtone and iTunes allows me to select it for syncing but it's not going over.

Edit: I took a closer look at iTunes and realized there was a tiny exclamation mark beside the item. The error message told me iTunes couldn't find the ringtone. I moved it to the Ringtones folder within the iTunes directory and it's all good now.

I have had a similar issue and here is how I resolved it:

when your iphone is connected to Itunes, click on the iphone on the left side in Itunes. Then on the top (below the itunes symbol) there is a line that says "Summary, Info, Apps, Ringtones, Music, Mocies, TVShows, Books, Photos", Click on "Ringtones". Check "Sync Ringtones". That resolved it for me. First, you have to of course make sure the ringtones are in the ringtones folder. That folder can be seen on the left side of Itunes under the LIBRARY. Hope this helps!
