How to change Apple ID on iPad?

Hey Guys ~

I have posted this question every where and no one seems to know how to help me. I changed my email address at iTunes. Which is my ID, obviously. But it is all set up at itunes, and on my iPad too, via settings.

But ~

When I go to update my 11 updates, it pops up with my old ID/email, which no longer is operating.

So I can't update my apps or purchase from itunes through my iPad. Yes, I have gone to Settings, and signed out, signed back in, with NEW ID/email, and that is all good...

But updating my apps ~ still has my old email.

Help? Please?

HP, iPad 64 with 3G and wifi

Linda, excuse me for seizing upon your entry, but I don't know how else to go about getting my two cents worth in. I have just one App I can't renew because it was done on an old email + password. The password for the old account isn't recognized, but if I went through the process of recuperating the password, I'm convinced that Apple would get the wrong idea: they would think I wanted to return to that old combination... better that I sacrifice or "repurchase" the App. My two cents are as follows: could Apple introduce a special procedure on behalf of the use for the identification and consolidation of ID credentials? Such a procedure might reduce the weight of Apple's databases in the process. Fewer users would jump off bridges (I live near the Tiber) and continue to buy MAC products.

The process to recover a forgotten password is automated. Apple will not get no idea whatsoever other than you wanting to get a password for an apple ID which is unrelated to any other Apple ID you may have. If you wanted to use that apple id again you very well can. There's nothing wrong with using an older ID.

Its always a good idea to keep your Apple IDs up to date. Which is why Apple offers an easy way of maintaining the Email and password associated with an Apple Id updated.

Go to appleid.apple.com and Change your password there. You can also use iForgot.apple.com to recover the password.

This will not affect any devices using different apple id in any way. It will however let you updated any Apps you have associated with the Apple ID who's password you forgot.

Many thanks for a coherent reply. Indeed, following your suggestions, iPad happily renewed the item acquired on the old ID I was afraid to use. Curiously, I tried updating on the Itunes in the main computer (the cloud I suppose) and it requested the password for the old ID all right, but, in the final analysis wouldn't accept it (i.e. accepted on the device but not on the main computer). Instead, it immediately requested the current ID, then rejected the current ID for that particular update. This is not a matter of concern, however, and the original goal, that of updating on the device, was accomplished. I really appreciate your time and trouble.

When hen I said he doesn't use my iPad at all that was meant to cover the fact that he also has never been signed into his Apple account on there not downloaded apps to my iPad using his account.

If you use the same iTunes library and apps he purchased are in this iTunes library, and these apps are sync'd to your iPad, then you will see his login when trying to update on the iPad.

Login issues: So I'm trying to update my apps and the login that continues to pop up is my older account that i no longer use let alone have access to. i have logged in and out from the itunes store and setting with the new account but continue to have this old one pop up. i cannot login into the old account because i do not have the password and i dont have access to the email address registered to that account. i'm just wanting to have my current login appear when i'm updating my apps but cant seem to switch it over. appreciate all the help!

You don’t need access to that email account.

If this does not work, contact Apple as noted in the 2nd to last paragraph.

FYI: If you need to change you AppleID, just update it instead of creating a new one.

This will save future headaches such as this...

I had this experience, because of an old ID then a more recent one. A problem arises when updating an App purchased on the old ID.

The problem was made less acute 1) by obtaining a password for the old ID and 2) concentrating on using the more recent one.

It is not difficult to recuperate a password: try to login and when the login fails, click "forgot your password". Apple provides various ways of dealing with security - security questions in particular, which you will have provided them when you obtained the original login data.

I have the impression, then, that Apple "learns" what ID you prefer. Now, there is very little bother: only rarely am I asked for the old ID, and only for updating older Apps as mentioned above.

You'll find lots of advice in this forum, but I just wanted to impart some encouraging news.
