How to change Apple ID on iPad?

Hey Guys ~

I have posted this question every where and no one seems to know how to help me. I changed my email address at iTunes. Which is my ID, obviously. But it is all set up at itunes, and on my iPad too, via settings.

But ~

When I go to update my 11 updates, it pops up with my old ID/email, which no longer is operating.

So I can't update my apps or purchase from itunes through my iPad. Yes, I have gone to Settings, and signed out, signed back in, with NEW ID/email, and that is all good...

But updating my apps ~ still has my old email.

Help? Please?

HP, iPad 64 with 3G and wifi

seems that i have a similar problem in that all apps that i either purchased or downloaded using an old appleID require me to enter a password for the old appleID which simply does not exisit anymore.

How does it not exist anymore? You should not have created a new account and simply updated the account with new info.

Go here -> http://www.apple.com/support/appleid

and select Find you Apple ID or Recover your password

I have the same problem -- only that the "old" apple ID and the "new" ID seem to be IDENTICAL. There is no other account (this confused the apple store tech genius as well), yet when I log on it tells me only the apps purchased recently (more precisely, after a date in October when the Cloud went live) can be updated as they are the only ones associated with this (new) account. Well, there should be only ONE account, yet a second one seems to magically exist out there -- with the same account name -- containing all my old (pre-October 15) apps. I verified this by looking at the info associated with the old apps -- and sure enough -- confirmed that they are associated with the same account name as the newer ones. (???) Unless there are some hidden characters in one of the IDs that I can't see in the account name, this is just surreal.

Did you find a solution (aside from deleting the apps associated with the old ID and re-buying under the new one)?. Perhaps it will also work for my dilemma.

I have been informed that as an app is acquired (free or purchased) it is attached the iTunes ID that acquired it.

If that iTunes ID goes inactive / closed, the Apps are no longer updated (is that a word?). What is on the iPad is stuck in the version at the time. If it is desired to get the updates - the App must be uninstalled and re-acquired under a new / current iTunes ID. And yes, paid for again.

It is tough for business' that have acquired iPads and set up iTunes accounts under an employee's e-mail address. When that person leaves the company and they retire the e-mail address, all of a sudden they can't do updates any longer even though they are the legitimate owner of the iPad and Applications. I am dealing with this with two company owned iPad2's

You have to keep the account live at all costs, Use a basic e-mail account that is forwarded, or change the e-mail address before stopping an employee e-mail (or your personal) e-mail account.

Maintain a good, clean iTunes Account with an up to date e-mail address!

That would be understandable if it indeed were the case. But in my situation have used the very same personal email address that is still active pre and post Oct 2011. There is no issue of a different email address/account name. (It is possible to determine which account name each app is associated with. On all my apps the very same account name appears, so there should BE no distinction between the treatment of the apps for updating. That is what makes this situation so odd and confusing.) I kept the same account name and password all the way through. I kept it the same to avoid confusion. And look where that got me.

Oh well....

Nope. In my case there IS NO other account. The same account name is associated with the old (un-up-dateable) apps, as well as the new apps. This was verified by the same account name appearing when I look at the info associated with each app. Yet it somehow distingushes between old and new apps despite the same account name. That is what is puzzling.

I think it has something to do with the date that iCloud came on line. That is the date after which new apps (those purchased after that date) are updatable, and those prior are not. No real reason why.

To update your Apple ID on your iPad/iPhone after you change your Apple ID online & on iTunes:

Go to Settings - iCloud. Scroll to the bottom and select "Delete Account". Afterwards you'll be able to input your new e-mail address as your new Apple ID. Just did it myself and it worked fine on both iPhone & iPad.

How to change Apple ID (WITHOUT DELETING APPS OR ACCOUNT) on IPAD 2 SOLUTION!

Problem 😠

Changed Apple ID (email address) to new ID (new email address) on Desktop Computer, but unable to input new Apple ID on IPAD 2 preventing me to log in and make purchase or update, etc. How do I do this without deleting apps and/or creating a new account?

Solution!!! 😀

1. Go to Home Screen, select "Settings" Icon

2. Select "Store" icon on Left

3. Below Music and Apps tab, there is a tab that says "Apple ID: (old apple id listed here)"click on it

4. A pop up menu will appear, select "Sign Out"

5. Select the "Sign in" tab

6. Select "Use Existing Apple ID"

7. Type your new Username Apple ID and input your password

8. Congratulations! You have successfully transferred your new Apple ID to your Ipad2!

I hope this helps! Have a good day everyone! 😎

Okay, it was the 4th post.

I guess this could be construed as unlcear and difficult (for some).

Go to the app store, click on Featured at the bottom, scroll all the way down, click on Account then sign out and sign in.

And is there some reason you responded to SweetPoison54's post from December 2010?

Or are you simply the "I like to rehash very old topics and respond to people who have had their issues solved 15 months ago" police?

🙂 Just askin'.

I had issues with my Ipad today and could not find a solution on this forum that could help me. Since I found out how to do this myself, i wanted to help out others like me and post on this forum- nothing to do about rehashing an old post. I don't see what the big deal is, I had this problem today, didn't see a solution in the forum (don't care how old it is) and decided to share my input since I found out a solution. Forums would be such a more postive environment if we didn't have posters like you making remarks that do not help the problem or topic at hand.
