Hi,
I have a question. I recently had my iPhone stolen.
See this -> What to do if your iOS device is lost or stolen
Put your missing iPhone into Lost Mode.
On that Apple ID I also had my iPad. I now have a new phone and decided to create a new Apple ID (I feel safer this way). My question is, can I simply change Apple ID info on my iPad to the new one and everything will work fine (and will not be connected to the old one in any way) or is it better to erase everything and set up as a new device?
It's far better to not create a new AppleID, update your current AppleID and continue to use it.
Just change your AppleID password.
All iTunes purchases are linked to the AppleID used to purchase. You would need to repurchase everything.
In addition all your info is still in iCloud.

Apr 22, 2014 11:20 PM in response to Chris CAby cherry9,Chris, thank you for your answer.
I have now already created a new ID. I could not wait, because I was without a phone and I needed to decide and set it up quickly. Also, as I've said, I feel safer this way. Thank you also for tips on what do to if my device is stolen. I did all that immediately after it was stolen.

Will Find My iPhone still work on the old one then?

Does that mean, that it won't update apps? If so, is there a way to achieve that they update?
In addition all your info is still in iCloud.
Is there a way to delete it?
Thank you very much. I'm sorry for all these questions that may seem stupid to you. I am relatively new to iOS devices (at least problems such as these).

Jul 5, 2014 6:59 AM in response to mckmagsby Shipgirl,I spoke with the good people at Apple Support about the problem on an Ipad Air when I changed my apple ID and password and got caught in a loop on the Ipad. I should have deleted the account on my Ipad first. So, I went back to my Apple ID and changed it back to the old ID. Then I could login on the Ipad and delete the Icloud account. Then I went back to Apple ID (on a desktop) and changed it to the new one I wanted. Then I went back to the Ipad and entered the new Apple ID and it all was in sync. It was easy once I understood the steps. Apple Support was great!

Jul 17, 2014 8:07 AM in response to Timothy Aaronby neonmoonstone,For those who did Apple ID Updates (and not new accounts)
Easiest way I found (after about 30 minutes searching and reading groups and trying new ideas):
1. After I updated my Apple ID on my Macbook through the web, all havoc happened with my iPad2. In iPad - go to Settings / iTunes
3. iTunes will display your OLD Apple ID and ask for your password
4. Update both the Apple ID and Password with the new information you just created online
5. Everything syncs!!
No need to delete any apps, reinstall anything. It would just be nice if Apple could point you to a "what you need to do if you change your Apple ID..." cheat sheet.

Sep 6, 2014 9:46 AM in response to Chris CAby Natchitoichesla,I had the same problem on my iPad when I moved and changed email. Thanks, Chris. I went down to the sign-in, logged out (since I was signed in under my old email), then logged in under the new email. Although I had everything current in my Apple account online (via computer) and in Systems, the App Store apparently does not synch.
Thanks for taking the time to post the correct answer,

Sep 12, 2014 9:38 AM in response to Sizarroby mikefromtehachapi, apple does not make it easy! I am almost to the point of throwing my iPad away. I can not update an app through iTunes, because apple stupidly still uses an email address that was cancelled over two years ago! There is no way I can find to fix this problem, wake up Apple!
-
Sep 12, 2014 9:43 AM in response to just-isby mikefromtehachapi,You sure hit the nail on the head! I have exactly the same problem, and have even driven over 120 miles to have an apple person fix this problem at the apple store, after getting home I still have the same problem. The apple software folk are brain dead.

You mean you did not update your AppleID with a new email address. How is Apple supposed to know this?
There is no way I can find to fix this problem,
Uh, yes there is. It is very, very simple.

Sep 12, 2014 9:50 AM in response to mikefromtehachapiby Phil0124,So the fact that you cancelled an email without taking the proper steps to insure your Apple ID would continue to function is Apple's Fault?
The existence of an email address is irrelevant to the functionality of an Apple ID.
If you new the email was going to be cancelled, you could have gone to http://appleid.apple.com and updated your Apple Id to a new functional email.
If you created a new Apple ID, then the other ID still exists with whichever password you assigned to it before.
Apps are forever tied to an Apple ID and cannot be transferred or merged to another. They will forever require it to update. Which is why updating the associated email address is a good thing to keep your purchases accessible.
If you were incapable of following 4 simple steps to update an email address, then how is that Apple's fault?
Apple cannot make it any easier to update an Apple Id, than to log into it, and update the email address. And click on a link to confirm the email address.
Before updating an Apple ID, its always a good idea to sign out of the services that are making use of it, and sing in agian after the change has been completed.
So really the only person that should wake up, is the individual who cannot follow 4 simple steps.
1. Sign out of Services using Apple ID
2. go to http://appleid.apple.com and Log in. and update email address.
3. Click on link in verification email to verify new email address.
4. Log in again with updated Apple ID to services.

You don't need to delete and repurchase.
Jus update your AppleID, log out and log back in and the apps will get updated.
