Assuming you have changed your id (to a new one) in the account info in iTunes. Then click on the Apps at the left, then click on the "Check for Updates" ath the buttom of the Apps page. There it will show you to change the Apple ID, Change it and Sync with your iPad. Once Sync is done, go to Apps on the iPad and try to update something, you will get the new ID, Enjoy!

Follow these steps to switch your iPad to another account:

    • Click on the iPad Home button Click on the "Home" button, find the "Settings" icon in your Home screen(s), and then tap on it.
    • When your iPad Settings screen opens, the "General" settings will be selected by default.
    • To change your iTunes email account and enter another Apple ID, tap on the "Store" category on the left.
    • Then, tap on the "Sign Out" button on the right. Your iPad will confirm the successful logout by displaying a "Account: Not Signed in" message at the top. You are now ready to switch to another iTunes account.
    • Just tap on the "Sign in" button, and the iPad will open a "iTunes Password" dialog: type in your alternate Apple ID's email address in the "Username" text field, and fill in the "Password" field. Once you've updated your credentials, tap on the "OK" button.
    • You may see a "Verification Required" dialog, with the following message: "Before you can make purchases, you must tap Continue, then verify your payment information". Tap on the "OK" button to proceed (and get more details about the iTunes Verification Required error message, which has to do with billing information).
    • If you don't see this message, you are done, and you successfully updated your iPad login for the iTunes Store!

Tip: if you use multiple iTunes accounts, keep in mind that your iPad will automatically "remember" the last Apple ID you have used, and will expect the password for that account when needed. Most content you purchase or download from the iTunes Store contains "DRM" protection, which will prevent you from playing items that were purchased with a different Apple ID / Account.

And you may need to erase any apps that are pending downloads

follow DocTaSpock instructions if you are having trouble with replacing your old apple id with a new one you have created on your ipad. i managed to change it in settings ok but still my old id came up when trying to buy stuff in app store etc, so you do need to also delete any apps that are already showing in your 'updates' section before it will allow you to use or change your id to the new one. so far so good anyway.

Try logging out of your account by tapping the id in Settings > Store and then log back in

Go to iTunes, tap on Genius, you will see Apple Id at the bottom. Tap on it and tap sign out then you can sign in with the correct ID!

Yes, I've wasted hours resolving this incredibly annoying issue.

If you've ever changed your user ID and/or apps were purchased on your device under any other ID than your main apple ID, then you will likely encounter problems.

Ironically, this came up because I changed my apple ID....when I started having login problems with multiple devices (Macbook, ipad1, iphone4s).  Created new apple ID, verified and consolidated under one email and everything went fine as far as my laptop and iphone.

Then I picked up my ipad for the first time in several weeks and hello, it wants my old apple ID for an app update.  It shows me logged in as my NEW ID but if go to update an app it asks for my old one.  None of the clever fixes suggested worked and even updating to the newest OS didn't fix it.

    What did work for me:

    1)  Delete the apps.  If you are conscientious about backing up it's an annoying but they will reinstall when you sync.

2).  Remember your old password!  Shockingly, I discovered my old password under my old username still actually worked for the old apps purchased under said name.  NOTE:  Old apple ID's DID NOT require the first letter of your PW to be capitalized.  This might throw you off if you like me have an ancient apple ID.

    Good luck.

Had the same issue. Changed my apple ID in Itunes and then both my Iphone and Ipad still showed the old ID and spent hours/days trying to change it. Somehow the Iphone in all the mess got changed but not the IPad. I finally plugged the IPad into my computer and sync'd it and amazingly the correct apple ID was on my IPad. I say the answer after you change the ITunes ID might just be to sync your other devices.
