Not sure if using a different method of making CD music recordings may help;
in that there are other ways including fairly OK free-ware. Since I've only used
a few over the past years that are third party free-ware, and generally not for
music archives, I can only suggest to look into the audio features in "Burn" as
this appears to offer that option among others. (I've used it for data/backups.)

Also, I noticed in your post signature line you've listed what probably is either
an iBook or PowerBook G4 as a
MacBook G4, and while it is easy to guess
the unit is not an Intel-based Mac, (running an OS X predating Intel-Mac intro)
it may be helpful to those who may answer your thread's question to know if
the unit is a PowerBook or iBook G4 model. The name MacBook refers to the
newer Intel-based Apple Portable entry-level and up series, so it may confuse.
Oh, the speed at which optical media is recorded may also affect their ability
to be played on some equipment; slower is better, in recording to disc.
Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
