Facetime will not log in?! - New ipod - Help!

I can not figure out for the life of me why facetime will not activate! I have successfully set up a apple id and am logged into that fine...but when I click facetime on new ipod touch it keeps giving me message: "can not sign in please check your network connection and try again"

But that makes no sense...Apple ID is fine and I have strong wifi where I am. I am surfing web just fine...but facetime will not activate. What can I do??

Thanks in advance!!

@Mickcancook: Welcome to Discussions.

Hello concort.

If your problem continues after restarting, try resetting: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430

If neither resolves the problem, take the iPod back to your retailer for service or replacement.

OK...Just got off the phone with apple tech support....Maaaan...What an ordeal on Christmas day. Anyway, they basically said that their servers are over-taxed today because so many people are logging on creating new accounts and their servers can't take it all. - - You've got to be kidding me I thought. They basically said to try again later when the server traffic is not so bad sigh

Still doesn't make sense when my iphone works like a dream when facetiming but no go with the new ipod. Whatever. I'll try again later but thought many more of you could use this info since it seems so many are having the same issue.

It sounds reasonable to me. However, it is clear that you do not like the answer.

At this point your alternatives seem to be:

 • try again later or

 • trade your iPod for a device that works the way you want.

I'll try again later but thought many more of you could use this info ...

Wise choice. Thanks for sharing the server load info. I expect it will help others.

Cheers,
Jim

I dont see this option in settings on the ipod?? When I click options then facetime in settings it goes directly to the log in screen again...Then of course its STILL not signing me in. Can the servers STILL be overwhelmed. This is kind of nuts. You think Apple would have provisions for the increase in people using their servers.

I'd like to try the resend email validation thing but I don't see this anywhere. can you detail how you were able to have this resent? I'll try anything at this point. Even hoping on one leg while holding my nose and spinning in circles if I knew it may work. It's like were trying some brand new item here that has never been tested. There should have been a "beta" stamped to the front of this ipod until they get these issues resolved.

It was just right there on mine. I'm no expert, just had a similar problem this morning, came here, saw other people were having the problem, and took a stab in the dark. When it worked, I figured I'd let other people know.

Do you have an email account set up on the iPod, and is that the account you used to register? Another stab in the dark since I'm on a hot streak.

I actually used a different email address then I am using for the facetime account validation. But I don't think that should really matter from what i've read else where. I set up a whole new apple id with a new email account, credit card...everything. Then i'm using this new account to TRY to log in/validate my facetime on the ipod. Nothing. Nothing is working. Nothing. It just keeps saying same thing..."Can not sign in, please check network connection and try again"

Keep in mind that my iphone is working like a dream and connect just fine. sigh

Check date and time on new ipod.
I just was able to sign up 2 itouch (4th gen) with the same account.
The first one - was no problem.
The second one was tough.

The first one seem to have to the most current OS installed. The second one did not.

The date on the second one was wrong (it had the correct time zone) but it was 15 hours behind, and it was dated back in the 1900s. I corrected the date on the itouch i was having trouble with and it that corrected the facetime connection issue.

I am experiencing the same issue with my iPod Touch 4g that I received yesterday. I tried both my Apple ID and another email that I set up and I am getting the same message. There's no "resend verification email" under Settings > Facetime for me either, I just get the original log in screen. I have restarted and reset my iPod; still nothing. So disappointed.

Sidenote: Tango voice call app isn't working for me either, and I deleted and reinstalled.
