Powermat Wireless Charging system with an iPad...will it work?

Merry Christmas to all ... I received a Powermat Wireless Charging system for Christmas this morning. I was hoping this would be a better solution for charging our cell phones, iPods and my iPad. Aside from the fact that you must buy all of the compatible receivers for each device that you want to charge, I can't definitively determine that this system will work with the iPad.

If it doesn't work with the iPad, I don't think I will want to plunk down $40.00 or more for the additional compatible receivers required (plus my cell phones are not compatible with the way I hoped this would work anyway), but I am wondering if in fact this device will charge the iPad. Their (Powermat) website does not list the iPad as being compatible, but it would not be the first time I got incorrect information from a vendor website.

I tried to charge the iPad with the direct USB connection that comes with the mat, and it did not work, so I am guessing that this Powermat does not put out enough power to charge it since I had no luck with it.

If it is compatible and I'm missing something and one of you many knowledgeable people out there can steer me in the right direction, I may bite the bullet and buy the necessary receivers for our many and various iPods. If it does not work with the iPad, this puppy is going to be returned.

I do appreciate the response and I did read the article. The charging device that I received works totally independent of a computer. The Powermat plugs into a wall socket and has three spaces for charging compatible iPhones, iPods, Blackberrys and some other smart phones. These devices require a wireless receiver that must be used with the Powermat for the the devices to charge. These receivers are basically covers for the devices that snap onto the device to receive the wireless charging signal when placed on the proper spot on the Powermat. The mat also has a conventional USB port on the back into which I plugged the iPad charger cord to see if the iPad would charge. It did not charge this way.

Not trying to bore you to tears with my explanation, but this Powermat is supposed to be a way to charge multiple devices at the same time and it does not plug into a computer at all so it does not rely on any power from the computer. It plugs into the wall socket and is touted as a "take anywhere" device that you can use in the office, on a trip or whatever.

I was wondering specifically if anybody had used this particular charger with an iPad with any success. Like I said, it was not charging for me so I was assuming that it does not draw enough power from the wall socket to charge the iPad via the USB port connection on the back of the mat. There is no compatible wireless receiver available for the iPad either so that is not an option.

At this point, I think I will just return it. Thank you very much for your help!
