Not charging while plugged into computer?

Question

Not charging while plugged into computer?

My iPad says "Not charging" when it's plugged into my computer...
is it supposed to say that? Why won't it charge in my computer? My iPhone and iTouch do.

Windows, iPhone OS 3.1.3

There is most likely not enough current (power) on the USB bus of your computer to charge it. Try using a powered USB hub and see what happens.

Your iPhone and iTouch require less current (5watts I believe) while the iPad uses 10watts while charging.

I don't think I'm really understanding what you're saying...
Shouldn't the iPad charge while it's plugged into my computer? I have my computer plugged in and everything so there's no lack of power.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Your iPad requires more power to charge than an iPhone or iPod. Many USB ports do not provide enough power to charge an iPad except for very slowly. It has nothing to do with whiter or not the computer is plugged in. This is why the iPad, unlike the iPhone or iPod comes with a wall charger. Charger it with the wall charger and you'll be fine. What you are seeing is perfectly normal.

A powered USB hub will help. The USB hub still uses your computers USB port but they come with their own source of power.
