ITUNES APP STORE WITHOUT A CREDIT CARD WITH EXISTING APPLE ID

Hey,

I've been trying to create a free itunes app store account. First I read the instructions in this link : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534, but the link shows how to create a new account, the problem is that I already have a Apple ID.

On the other hand when I try to sign in in the app store with my existing Apple ID, I get the message "This Apple ID has not yet been used with the iTunes Store please review your account information" with two options "cancel" and "review".

Clicking in review, I go to the page with the terms of service, continuing I go to a page where I have to type my email, my password, question and answer for the password and my birth date. The email field has the email that is being used with my current Apple ID, and the password field has the password of my existing Apple ID. The other fields are blank. Completing them, and clicking in next I go to the payment options page, but there's no "none" option, so I can't make a account withou using a credit card.

Is there a way to create a itunes app store without a credit card with my existing apple ID, or a I have to create a new one ?

There are normally some hoops you can jump through as you create your iTunes account that workaround the need for a payment card or bank account, otherwise once the account is set up the iTunes Store may still expect you to provide one, even if you are obtaining free content, which you can later remove. If you don't have or want to use a credit/debit card at this time you can try this method using iTunes on a computer...

  1. Enable the menu bar if needed with Ctrl+B (only applies to some builds of iTunes 12 for Windows)
  2. Sign out of the iTunes Store from the Store/Account item on the menu bar
  3. Go to Music > iTunes Store home page
  4. Go to Quick Links > Redeem
  5. Sign in with your Apple ID
  6. Go through the screens, accepting the EULA, etc. You should arrive at a Review Payment screen where one of the options is None - select this and continue. You shouldn't actually need to redeem a new voucher/card.

It is worth noting that one of the functions of the registration is to prove you have a valid billing address in the region whose store you are trying to use. You might also have difficulty selecting None as an option if you have any active subscriptions (see View, change, or cancel your subscriptions - Apple Support), an outstanding debit balance to the iTunes Store, there are unreleased authorization holds on the card (see About payment card authorization holds in the iTunes Store - Apple Support) or you are trying to switch to one regional store while being in a different region. See If you can't choose None when you edit your Apple ID payment information - Apple Support for more.

Add one more, everwhere I hear the following: "Just pick the "None" option."

I couldn't get it with a new account, or with an existing account, not in the itunes store not in the apps store, even tried several different countries. I don't own a credit card and I don't want to own a creditcard, Honestly, I don't even really need or want that I-Pad or any of the apps that badly, in fact, I don't want to pay apple for anything whatsoever. My employer says it's mandatory to use the Ipad for my job, as such I need an alternative, besides asking my boss to provide me with a company credit card. (especcially since this is an internship at a government institution and I'm fairly sure they won't agree to that.)

Sorry Chris. This doesn't work for me. From iTunes (10.4.1.10), I click on App Store. I selected a FREE app (Facebook for example). I get a popup. Top half has the "Create New Account" button, bottom half has the sign in for existing accounts. If I click on the "Create New Account" button (and click OK to terms), I get to the screen where I can't go any further because my email address is already associated with a current Apple account. I can't get past that screen.

If I choose to sign in with my existing account, I have to enter my credit card number.

I agree, Don. I can't believe more people haven't found this to be an unacceptable business practice. Thank you for posting. I know this is a user driven forum, but I'm sure Apple pays attention to hot button issues. And if more people complain about it, they'll eventually fix it. I know if it were my product, I would pay attention to the user community.

Also, I've tried setting up a new e-mail account. It doesn't work either.

I'm not sure why some "higher level" users on this forum think there is still a "None" option and keep instructing people to use it. There isn't one. I'm a computer programmer - it's not like I'm a novice computer user fumbling about and not finding it. I've tried every angle to get past entering a credit card number and there just isn't one in versions 10.4 or 10.5. I find this completely horrendous and wonder why other people don't have a problem with it. All of the free apps out there that I can't get to...
