problem w/ audio out to TV

I have a MBP 5,2, 17", mid-2009, and am trying to get audio and video out to my TV. I have the Moshi MDP to HDMI adapter, and I've connected it to the DVI input on the TV. I have a cable with a headphone jack that splits into 2 RCA plugs for sound, and have plugged it into the RCA inputs associated with the DVI input.

Video works fine, but I have no sound on the TV. When I checked 'sound preferences', it shows that the sound output is via the headphone port. If I use my headphones, the sound is there.

How would I begin to troubleshoot to figure out where the proble lies? MBP, TV, cable? Thanks for any help.

I am just going to guess and say it is your TV. When you select the DVI input the TV would expect audio from a 1/8'' input or maybe no input at all. Then the RCA audio will only when the video input is selected since that is where the audio is plugged it. To confirm this; plug in your MBP to your current config and cycle through the inputs and see if audio passes on one of them. If audio work on another input besides DVI then you would need to re-think your connection to a TV to include Video and Audio.
