Dec 28, 2010 6:56 AM in response to Jelly2008by PT,Is the cable pushed ALL THE WAY into the shuffle?
The headphone style jack will go mostly in and stop and you need to give it one final shove to snap it the rest of the way in. The plastic body of the plug should be flush with the shuffle's body. If you see any of the metal of the plug, then the cable isn't fully seated in the jack.

Dec 31, 2010 9:12 AM in response to PTby appleiris,This was helpful. I was just about to post the same problem of not having my device recognized and not able to sync. I'm not sure if I'll still have problems but at least now the cable is pushed all the way into the shuffle. I also just bought my shuffle yesterday. First ipod product ever. -
Jan 1, 2011 8:42 PM in response to Jelly2008by Reggie Barton,In addition to making sure the jack is plugged in "all the way" (the last stop on it is a snappy CLICK in). You should also try multiple usb ports. If after trying multiple usb ports and making sure it is clicked fully in and the device still does not appear in iTunes you may want to borrow someone elses shuffle sync cable or take it in to the apple store / call apple care. -

Jan 19, 2016 4:53 PM in response to Naz224by Kenichi Watanabe,Does the iPod appear in iTunes (as a device button on horizontal bar), so you cancel select it to show its settings screen? Or is the reason for not being able to sync because the iPod does not appear in iTunes?
When you connect it, what does the shuffle's light do (if anything)? Does it blink initially with orange color? Is it solid (not blinking)?
