If Iphone is defective will they replace with new phone?

If iphone is defective does apple swap for new? My speaker didn't work and the apple store in jacksonville said they only swap out with new phones. They gave me a phone with no box or any information except a repair agreement that said could use used parts. Is there anyway I can check to make sure my phone is not refurbished?

How do you know that's the selling price? It sounds like the cost of Out Of Warranty service ($199 for all iPhones).

What was wrong with the iPhone? Maybe the Apple retail store waived a service charge for you.

People need to know that they should open the box and test the equipment while they are in the store because once they walk out, a replacement phone will be a refurb. As a consumer, you have no choice, even though the defect was not the fault of the consumer. People need to know - I wish someone would have blogged it here before I made my purchase.

The problem is that you are confusing "purchasing", "replacing" and "repair".

You put down your money and "purchased" a new phone and took it home.

That phone had (I assume) some kind of problem and you took it back to the store. If you took it to AT&T or the Apple Store and they decided to "replace" the phone, you would receive a new phone, with all accessories, in exchange for your defective phone.

However, here is where you seem to be confused, if the iPhone is taken for "repair", instead of taking your phone and keeping it for several days to remove the defective part and replacing it, Apple instead keeps a stock of phones they can exchange for your defective phone and you are not without. When I was in the Army, we did this with tanks and called them "floaters", it kept the tank unit combat ready instead of having a tank in repair for an extended period of time. Back to the iPhones, the replacement may or may not be a "referbished" unit, there is no way to tell. They in turn take your phone back to the factory and perform the repair and place it into the "repair/replacement" stock for another person needing a repair.

You would have to ask AT&T.

As long as the iphone works and looks as it should I don't see the issue.

Once you opened the box, your was a used iphone and will be a refurbed unit that someone will get once it has been repaired and checked and it will be as good as new ( maybe better as it has been checked out).

If a working iphone is the goal, then you have succeeded.

The issue is the extra $100 I paid to purchase a new phone. I paid $299 for a new iphone two weeks ago, opened it up and activated it today, doesn't work, and now (after a trip to the apple store) I own a $199 refurbished phone. What about the extra $100 I paid for "new"? I could have bought the refurbished one two weeks ago, but didn't. Bought new instead. Since I paid for new, I just want what I paid for. Do you think apple will reimburse me the $100 or was this simply some error by the jacksonville apple rep? Has anyone else had these issues?

By the way, whoever buys my refurbished phone (that surely will be repaired good as new) will undoubtedly pay the "refurbished" price, because it was in fact a defective unit to begin with.

There is no way to tell if the iphone you have is new or refurb. The rep should not know either. All replacements, new and refurb, come in the same box. You cannot tell the difference.

No, Apple will not give you $100.

You could check with whomever you purchased to see if it could be returned, but it is doubtful, as you no longer have the original device.

Just assume that you have a new replacement iphone ( as you do not know and should not know one way or the other) and call it a day.

The replacement unit didn't come in any box at all, not even sealed in wrapping. Phone only. No accessories. Price on repair ticket said $199. When I told her it was a $299 phone, she said something vague, so I guess I should have known right then something was not right. I'm going to go to apple tomorrow and try to get my old "brand new phone" back, so I can return it to att. I think that's the only way I will be able to make sure my "brand new purchase" is actually "brand new." I guess the lesson learned is to always test the phone in the store, before you sign anything and never believe what an apple rep tells you (at least at the Jacksonville store), turn the agreement over and read the fine print on the back. Just knowing I paid $300 for a refurbished phone has ruined my christmas for sure.
