Hello and welcome to discussions,

Untried and untested here. This might work though...

( Cannot test as I don't own said printer! )

Here is how to use the Dell 3010cn Color Laser Printer on Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard (or 10.3-10.5):

1) Install Ghostscript 8.64
http://www.openprinting.org/download...-8.64so-ub.dmg

2) Install Foomatic-RIP-4.0.2
http://www.openprinting.org/download...-4.0.2.211.dmg

3) Download the PPD
OpenPrinting database - Printer: Dell 3010cn

4) Add printer using USB or IP address (LPD or IPP protocol). Change driver from Autoselect/Generic to other, and find the PPD from 3).

5) You are good to go!

Regards.

Ian.

Hello,
Your answer was a great help.
Links are not working but you can find Ghostscript 8.7 and Foomatic-RIP for Mac os 10.6 on the internet.
Printer works, but he needs more time to print (recalculating info) then on a windows pc.
Ad in Your answer to put de download PPD printer Dell 3010cn in the library/printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources (there is the list of all printers).

Now go to printers (in the map hardware) and install your printer, you will find the Dell printer in the list off printers.

thanks for your help

Hans

Hi,

First, I would like to thank Ian for all of the helpful information he posted.

I have an IMac (Snow Leopard) and I am trying to install the driver for my Dell 3010cn.

I have done the following:

1-I installed Ghostscript 8.71

2-I installed Foomatic-RIP-4.0.6.230

3-I downloaded the PPD OpenPrinting database - Printer: Dell 3010cn then I moved it to library/printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources.

4-I added the printer using IP address, changing the driver from Autoselect/Generic to other so I could select item 3.

It seemed the process had worked ( I can check the supply levels) but

when I tried to print I get the following message:

Network host 'XX.XX.XX.XX' is busy; will retry in ?? seconds...

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Sergio

I was just having this very problem today...

I'm using an iMac OSX 10.6.7 with a Dell 3110cn printer connect by ethernet to a wireless Linksys router.

It may be worth mentioning that I was actually able to locate, download and install a functional Mac OSX print driver for the 3110cn on the Dell website without installing any of that other stuff.

I started getting the "Network host xx.xx.xx.xx is busy, will retry in ?? seconds..." error after I changed the print cartridge. I have no idea if that's what caused the problem or not, but everything was fine before I did it, and not fine afterward.

Anyway, so I deleted the printer driver for the 3110cn.

Then I turned off the printer, unplugged my router and shut down the iMac.

I then plugged the router back in and, after a few seconds, turned the printer back on, reset the printer settings to the default settings and then printed out the "printer settings" to have a record of the correct ip address.

Then I booted up and reinstalled the print driver making sure that I had the correct ip address in the IPP settings.

It worked. Hope it works for you.
