Control connected iPod classic with Remote

I am controlling itunes with the Remote on iPhone.
Is it somehow possible to play music from a iPod Classic that is connected to the Mac via USB (and shows up in th devices list in iTunes) using the Remote app?

My friend has a lot of Music on his iPod Classic, that i dont have in my library, and it is very annoying, that i cant play those using the Remote.
