macbook pro opens only on safe mode help

help wanted,
have a two month old i5 macbook pro, for the last month whenever i start the mac it keeps opening on safe mode, at first was possible to restart in normal mode but for the last two weeks i havent shut down the mac only on stand by, yestarday however i shut it down and the wholeday i have been trying to open without any success, i called assistence but without much help, said he will call back still waiting,
i tried to repair disc but its like the whole mac is frozen up, nothing opens .....
any advice from any wise guys out there,
is the mac worth anything i paid euro 1499 for it.....

macbook pro 15, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

Hi j,

What troubleshooting steps did you try with AppleCare?

If you don't get a callback very soon, why not call back and talk to someone else?

hi tjk,

i called up apple care after almost a day of trying to start up the macbook pro,
the call was passed around a couple of times, before was helped thru by a expert .
my question was the same , why is my mac opening up only on safe mode, when i push the start up button?

was on line for almost 54 minutes paid call with apple care.

anyway tks for moving my question to the right tread.

It would still be helpful to know what steps you've tried . . . have you:

Reset PRAM?

Reset SMC?

Repaired Disk?

Selected your Startup Disk?

Reinstalled the OS?

i havent done anything on the mac, tried to repair disk , but the icon of repair disc is disactivated

You have to boot from the install disc in order to Repair Disk.

From what I've read in other threads, this usually turns out to be a hardware issue requiring logic board replacement. If you have an Apple Store nearby, I would make an appointment with the "genius" bar. In the meantime, you could run Apple Hardware Test to see if it locates anything. Boot from the disc which lists the AHT on it while holding down the d key and follow onscreen directions. If you have the time, run the extended test.

do i have to back all files before i do the test

ihave a slight problem now the macbook is open in the normal mode, am afraid that should i boot from the disk , the mac will start up again in safe mode, then am stuck.

No, the AHT should not do anything to the HD/your data. OTOH, anyone who values their data always has a current backup (I use both Time Machine and SuperDuper!); all HDs will fail, some sooner, some later.

Just saw your edit. How did you get it to boot normally? You'll have to decide if you want to keep using it while it's booted normally, or run AHT. If you know how you got it to boot normally, and it is reproducible, that would be interesting/potentially helpful troubleshooting info.
