For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Right-click on the setup file and run the installer as administrator. It may also help to pre-install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable. In some cases you may also need to disable any anti-virus software.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I got this error while trying to install Apple application support. And it's still not loading. Running Windows XP. Any other thoughts?

We'll try a "standalone" installation of Apple Application Support, Geek. (It may not install, but at least we'll have a better idea of what the problem is, based on any error messages we might get.)

Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

http://www.rarlab.com/

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").

Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.

Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?

If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes/Apple-Application-Support trouble cleaned up +en passant.+

Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. Do they fail to install? If so, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? (For example, "8007000b".)

In my case it was my anti-virus(AVG 2011)program that was blocking part of the installation process for i tunes. I couldn't find a way to disable AVG so i had to uninstall AVG. installed i tunes, it installed as it should i tested i tunes it ran OK then i reinstalled AVG anti-virus software. both programs are running fine. I hope this helps you, Dumb Geek.

Here is my situation.

Trying to migrate from old XP system to Windows 7 on a new PC.

Itunes and quicktime were installed on the old pc and may still be installed; I see files to that effect. But I cannot activate Itunes or QT on the old PC.

I have ITunes on the new PC, but I haven't been able to put any of my music files from the old PC into ITunes folders. I can see them on the new hard drive, but they don't transfer via Itunes to new ITunes folders.

At some point, I got a message that told me that I already had 5 PCs authorized (I presume, to my Apple or ITunes account. That is surprising as I and my wife have only 4 PC including the new one, and one iPhone...so how could I have 5 PCs authorized already? I guess I have no way to identify the 5 "authorized" PCs.

Anyway, I tried to deauthorize the old PC (to get under the 5 PC limit) but of course, I could not because now, after converting the old XP PC to Windows 7, Itunes isn't working. When I try to install Itunes on the old PC (now, a Win 7 PC), I get a message that tells me Quicktime didn't install correctly and and Itunes needs QuickTime. This has become too complicated and obscure for me to sort out. My problem sounds vaguely like some of the problems here, but not exactly the same.

Any ideas or suggested solutions? Thanks in advance.
