iPod Touch videos won't show then crash and apps respond slow

exactly the same ipod & exactly the same problem. word for word.

also, the battery's draining down extremely quickly on certain days, or overnight.. even when all applications are closed down.

the apple store's replacing the ipod for me but this could easily happen to the new one as well.

same problem for anyone else?

I'm having the same issues after updating to the iOS 4.2 Software.

I am having the same issue after the latest update (4.2.1 i believe).
Seems if on my Touch that I switch the language to something else and then back, the vids re-appear in for a little while (then I lose them again and have to do it over again)...

Not happy at all about this and it should have had a bug fix out by now.

I have the exact same problem so hopefully Apple is seeing this thread and doing something to fix. I'd much prefer a fix than a new iTouch. The one I have is special, you know?

I have the same problem. I was told to restore from backup, but it didn't solve the issue.

I have had the same issue since updating to the newest update, 4.2.1. I have a 64gig iPod Touch, and I just tried restoring it as a new iPod tonight. No luck. I hope this can be fixed soon.

Right, i just got my ipod touch replaced.. so connected my brand new ipod into the laptop!

same problem!! how is that possible?! must be the software.

removed my recently added videos incase it was a single bad file. no luck. definitely something wrong with 4.2.1

I have a 4th Gen iPod touch 64GB and I am seeing the same issue. Basically when I hit the video app to view my movies it just hangs on the screen and crashes back to the home screen. I just got this thing this week and it is brand new running 4.2.1. When I have it hooked into the USB Cable to sync and then I hit the Video app it will say updating library one moment and then my list of videos will come up and I can watch a movie. Then after removing it, it goes back to crashing. If I go under the Music tab and hit my music video playlist they work fine, also video podcasts are good to go, it is just the video app itself, which makes it difficult to watch movies.

I'm also having the same problem with the Videos app - interestingly enough, also with a 64GB 3rd Gen. Touch running 4.2.1 (build 8C148). Try to open Video app, it goes to white screen for a bit, then quits.

Checked out another thread ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12678404&#12678404) and experienced the same behaviors as well: temporarily works if you change languages; restoring as a new iPod does NOT fix issue; music videos seem to play fine (though it seems to repeat a video, rather than move on to the next); and all that.

The more I read about it, the more this seems to be a glitch in iOS. Moreover, it seems to be related to music videos somehow. Seems that the Music Videos and regular moves aren't playing nice.

While music videos do play in the Music app, that's not particularly convenient for me. Going off one of the posts in the above-mentioned thread, I'm going to tray a temporary fix of relabeling my "Music Videos" to "Movies". Seemed things went wrong when Music Videos entered the picture. While a work-around, for me it's a little more usable than the inverse.

Will report back whether or not this temporary fix works until Apple can release an update addressing this problem.

Double check how many apps are running in the background.

Not true, I bought two new (Gen4) ipods for xmas and both won't play videos, my other daughter has a (Gen3) recently updated and now won't play videos, the only one that works is mine and it's a (Gen1) and can't be updated to the new software. Thank god for that or I'd be going postal by now.
