I want to turn my ipad into a laptop. I intend to get a bluetooth keyboard case or just use my bluetooth keyboard that I use on my mac pro. But I am taking a unix course in college. I want to use my ipad for this class. How do I access the command line / os ?? Is there a terminal.app that I can install on the ipad? This has got to exist someplace, I just have not been able to find it. I know there is a company that will enable me to turn the ipad into a xwindow display but that is a bit overblown for what I am going to be doing. Maybe I have to buy a mac book air and just suck up the price. But I really think this is possible on the ipad. Thanks for your help.
Mac Mini/mac book pro/8 core 3.2 ghz mac pro,
Mac OS X (10.6.5)
Not sure if that's an alternative, but there are SSH clients in the AppStore that let you connect to a remote PC. So as long as you have an internet connection during your course, you could use one of those to log into, say, your Linux box at home.
I've done that, but it can be a bit awkward with special key combinations and the like.

You can't - there's nothing like Terminal or any way to access the command line on the iPad. If you want a functional computer for a UNIX class, you'll have to buy a true computer.
Well, there's your choice. You certainly can't do it in the unbroken, and not sure if jail breaking will let you.
If you plan on this to be the primary computer for a programming class, I think you'll be disappointed. It's not meant for that purpose, and I can't imagine it has the capabilities to keep up with your class requirement.
