No, that won't work. If you can get a device that broadcasts a wi-fi signal, then you can use it. Verizon has the mi-fi that connects to their 3g network and then broadcasts a wi-fi signal so up to 5 devices can connect.

yes but before going with Verizon, does Comcast 3/4g allow mifi connections? If so stick with your free Comcast and connect your iPad via wifi to the Comcast mifi.

You would need Comcast's 3G Mobile Hotspot, which is the same device Verizon uses (the Novatel MiFi 2200). Have your wife ask about the cost of that device.

Yes. But you will not need to use it to connect your iPhone since you already have a plan for the iPhone.

You need to check -> Clear and see if it is available in your area.

If you're referring to the Clear Internet + plan, note that you're capped at 5GB per month for download when using nationwide 3G which you use when outside of Clear's 4G area. Clear's 4G coverage appears to be limited to major metropolitan areas and nonexistent entirely in many states, so check to make sure their coverage for 4G as well as 3G fits your needs before you decide. I don't have any experience with Clear myself so I can't vouch for their reliability within their coverage area.

Note that Comcast also offers a 4GB/month plan. Your wife might ask if she can get that plan for free or for the difference in price. You also get 100 MB of 3G domestic (U.S.) roaming per billing cycle, so that might be a factor depending on where you plan to go.

The provider is Clear. I use Clear exclusively for mobile and home Internet. But I live in a good reception area. I'm sending this post through the Clear network from my Macbook Pro. I quit Comcast when I got Clear and have never regretted the change. Not everyone can get a good Clear signal though. So you better check it out.

Come to think of it, I think Comcast mobile uses the Clear network with Sprint as a backup when a Clear signal is not available to Comcast mobile customers (but my info may be dated).
