Feb 11, 2011 6:29 PM in response to Jayykayyby Bryan Brindeiro,I have been having similar issues where I will be streaming video from my iTunes library and pause the program, and when I come back to watch again, the screen saver will be playing slideshows of my iphotos and when I press play again, the screen goes black and nothing happens for about 2 minutes then the apple tv appears to crash and go through a reboot cycle and reappears at the main menu. -
Feb 19, 2011 3:37 PM in response to Jayykayyby 1lasttangle,My Apple Tv (2nd gen.) is doing the same thing. Seems like it crashes just before my screen saver kicks in. Tried doing a restore but it crashes seconds before it finishes! Pretty much fed up... -
Feb 19, 2011 7:21 PM in response to Jayykayyby capaho,If it crashes or resets itself frequently it could be an indication of a failing hardware component. You might want to take it to an Apple store and exchange it. -
Feb 22, 2011 8:03 PM in response to Jayykayyby etrillos,It happens exactly the same to me since last iTunes update. The only way that solved this was restarting iTunes and Apple tv is connected again. Seems more an iTunes latest version problem than a Apple TV update or hardware failure. -
Mar 31, 2011 5:33 PM in response to 1lasttangleby sojourner16,I am having the exact same issue. My ATV 2nd Gen reboots/resets itself constantly... I lose all saved information, it is infuriating! -
Apr 1, 2011 9:04 PM in response to Jayykayyby Bealsey Wonder,I've been having the same issue... the Apple TV (2nd gen) resets itself every 5 to 10 minutes. All software is current and up to date. Resetting & restoring to the factory settings unfortunately didn't solve the problem. I brought my ATV into the Apple store and they replaced it. To my dismay, the replacement device is having the same issue. I think it may have to do with the update. Still searching for a solution... -
May 31, 2011 7:15 AM in response to Jayykayyby Pixietale Studios,Ping.
Subscribing to this thread as I have the *EXACT* same scenario happening on ATV2. Fortunately I have Applecare - but I suspect a replacement will not fix the problem and I agree it's all started after an OS Update (as of this writing - it started TWO updates ago).
I am still hopeful an asnwer (or at least some darned ideas) are forthcoming.
I posted a new thread before I finally found this one. I provide a lot more detail in my set-up and what is actually happening there. But subscribing to this topic as well.

Jun 7, 2011 10:57 AM in response to Pixietale Studiosby rpwhaley,I'm having a similar issue -- I have 3 Apple TV2's in various rooms of the house, and only one experiences this issue. It often happens 1-2 times per week while viewing Netflix or Streaming from iTunes -- the unit reboots itself and comes to the original pre-setup menu (3 menu options) and no stored network information (security key, network name, etc). It's annoying having to re-enter the security key so often.
Also, the unit makes a loud popping sound through the TV speakers or home theater speakers quite often while browsing through menus. The popping goes away once media is in play.

Jul 28, 2011 3:52 PM in response to Jayykayyby LandRoverNC,I have Three (3) 2nd Gen Apple TV's. I started the having the same issue with my bedroom ATV about a month ago. Factory reset, etc, etc, etc. Did not help. Now one of the other Apple TVs is doing the exact same thing! After a few minutes of watching, it resets itself and reboots.
This is EXTREMELY frustrating. Has Apple acknowledged any hardware issues as of yet?

Jul 29, 2011 8:40 AM in response to Jayykayyby wcbreon,My 2nd Gen Apple TV is also crashing my iMac after 5 - 10 minutes of streaming movies. I was afraid it was a hardware problem on my iMac but I experimented with streaming the same movies to the PS3 via playback and it worked fine. Based on the results above where people have exhanged boxes with the same issue, my guess is it's software related or a problem w/all of the ATV2 devices.
I loved that I could copy movies to the 1st Gen ATV and never experienced a problem w/it. Since hard drives still exist in the world, hopefully Apple will consider adding one back to the new boxes when they finally add 1080p capability. I may try to exchange it this weekend just to rule it out.

Apple TV 2 crashing all the time. I noticed this starting happening after I upgraded my home pc to Lion. I think that came with upgraded itunes and there was some iOS patches that came around the same time. I even just updated to the latest appleTV update that came out a few days ago. It still keeps crashing.
I get crashes when pushing video and audio via airplay or when streaming from itunes. All my iOS devices OSX software is completely up to date. Also if I just let it sit there on the home screen it will crash.
I was going to go to the apple store today but I saw that @Bealsey Wonder did not get resolved.
