New iPad Not Charging with Wall Charger

Hi all. Got a new iPad for Christmas. No problems getting started until I tried to charge the iPad with the wall charger. It charges very slowly with a USB connection to my PC. Read all the FAQ and forums. All the iPad charging issues seem to be with USB connected charging.

Am I the only one having a problem with the wall charger?

Check the fuse on your charger.

I had the same problem but luckily had another charger. Changed that and it charged. Cheched the iPad charger and changed the fuse. Bingo, worked fine.

My only concern is, the charger came with a 3amp fuse and I only had a 13amp fuse spare. So, gotta go out and get some 3amp fuses.

I got an ipad as present in September. It worked but would not charge hardly from wall plub...took hours to get a few %. My daughter returned it to the Seattle Store where it came from, and they finally gave me a refurbed one, which I had wanted to avoid. So I get the new refurbed one, and it doesn't charge, still.

So, I send it back to California, but the UPS people tell me that I am not supposed to send the charger with the ipad, but I do anyway. Apple tells me that there is nothing wrong with the ipad, but when they return it, they do not return my charger. I finally get them to send me a new charger, even though they said I should not have sent the charger and that I should have been told that I was NOT to send the charger. I got a new charger from them finally. The Ipad CHARGES NOW, quickly. IT WAS THE CHARGER THAT WAS THE PROBLEM.

I think apple should automatically require that anything with charging problems have the charger sent in with the ipad so they can check the charger. IT is in three parts and any one of them could be the problem. It took me over 3 months to get to use my ipad, and it was the stupid little charger all along.

I wrote them a comment saying they need to change their protocol with charger problems. We shall see. Good luck.!

We have 6 iPad's out in the field and the only issue we have is power related, they are all plugged into a wall outlets and are being used moderately (anywhere from 4-8 Hours a day)they cannot keep a charge - we have replaced 4 of the 6 power blocks and this seems to fix the problem for a while (2 - 3 weeks) before the problem resurfaces. These iPads are in a fixed location and are always attached to a wall outlet - I would like to know is it the use of the product or faulty engineering in the power block. Any help would be appreciated.

I suspect they went with the cheapest vendor on the power block hoping to sell people a $35 replacement. After a few hours of research, plus testing all possible scenarios and narrowing it down to the power block, I had to visit the store to get it to work. One guy in front of me had his usb cord replaced in minutes.

New iPad, began showing "not charging" when connected to high-power PC USB port (worked fine for first two weeks). It still charges overnight, though.

Now, the wall plug stopped charging the iPad and even my iTouch, so looks like that has bit the dust, too.

The cord is fine and charges and syncs my iTouch fine.

NOT happy, Apple. We'll see what the help line has for us...holiday here in Japan, so the Apple phone line is closed for today.

Bear in mind all you mainly see posted on here are problems. The majority of users will not have problems and are unlikely to post here.

FWIW, I have two Apple wall chargers and one third party one all of which charge my iPad and iPhone. Fortunately I have an iMac and a MBP, both of which charge the iPad/iPhone via USB.

If you do some research (Google) you will find plenty of third party wall chargers that will work and are cheaper than the Apple version.

Fair enough, but keep in mind that they are also less capable and flexible. What you get in the iPad packaging is actually called a Power Adapter, which varies from a garden-variety wall charger in two ways: 1) it will handle input voltages world-wide, and 2) it can adapt to local plug types by sliding the US-style prong assembly off and replacing it with whatever you need locally (Apple sells that kit also).

Which makes me wonder when I read about a charger suddenly not working ... absent a VOM or any sort of electrical tester to see if any output VDC is actually present, and also testing the DC at both the charger and at the dock connector, the only thing left to perhaps try is to remove and inspect and jiggle around and reseat the plug portion of the adapter itself.

Hi everyone, I'll new to this support group, but not new to iProducts. I have had an iPad for the last 15 months and on Tuesday drove to my local Apple Store to get my new iPad. It is the 64gig WiFi only model as I use my iPhone4 with hot spot feature through Verizon for anytime I'm not near WiFi.

In the store I restored my backup from the iCloud and got everything working. I soon discovered that my photo library of over 7,000 pictures and CD music would have to come from an iTunes sync, and that's where the problem was noticed. I started out with 83% battery and the next morning I was down to 52% - no charging at the USB port, even though it was sleeping. I didn't get back to anymore than 50% the next night from a 20% jumpoff point on the wall charger. Last night same deal.

This morning at work I decided to turn this chatty kathy to airplane mode and try a charge from the wall charger. It has gone to 100% from 57% in about two hours.

From now on I will charge overnight in this mode and solve the problem. (that will also stop my email from pinging)
