Moving Events to a New Library within IPhoto 09

I am new to IPhoto and spent most of my holiday transferring 6500 pictures into IPhoto 09 from an external hard drive. Now that I have set up 150 events, I am going through pictures and beginning the naming process. I only want to do this for pictures with family members. As a result, I would like to move all Events (and the photos within them) to another Library. Is there an efficient way to "cut" the events in the main Library and "paste" them into a new library (which will be dedicated to non-family photos).

On a side note, if I am just beginning to get into this new world of digital photography, should I go ahead and spend the money for Aperture (as I have a preference to learn only one editing software)? Any thoughts about the added value of using Photoshop instead of Aperture?

NO there is n o way to cut and paste Events from one Library to another. You can move photos, events and/or albums between Libraries using iPhoto Library Manager.

No.

Digital Photography - like film shooting - is a learning curve. Basically, start with the app you are comfortable with. Then, when you feel it's not doing what you want, start looking to migrate to a more powerful app. Starting with a very powerful app (like Aperture or Photoshop) can be very overwhelming as they have so many options.

Further, Aperture is not a replacement for Photoshop, nor vice versa. Like iPhoto Aperture is a Digital Asset Manager aimed at managing the output of a shoot and processing the images. Photoshop is a pixel editor - a very powerful one - with no management abilities at all. Many folks reckon you need both an Asset Manager and a Pixel Editor. If you feel you do, Photoshop Elements is a lot more cost effective and almost as powerful as the full sized app - 85% of the power for 15% of the price, the old line used to go.

Lastly, unless you're shooting Raw or very high volumes of Jpeg, I'm not sure that Aperture has great value for the average user.
