Next, migration from address book 10.4 to address book 10.6

Hello again!
I am trying to import contacts from a home folder I backed-up on an external drive.
I searched on the forums but couldn't find any useful information. All the posts I found refer to importing from CSV and stuff like that.

Of course I tried to copy ~/library/application support/addressbook to the same location on the actual machine running 10.6 and the com.apple.AddressBook.plist too.

Address Book ignores the data.
Is there a way to import the old data? (the files are greyed out because it is expecting CSV)

Thanks for your time,
Castillo

It shouldn't. Make sure the addressbook.data (not sure if that is the correct name) file is the only thing in the AddressBook folder when you run Address Book. It should convert that file to the new format (individual cards in the metadata folder). You can then get rid of the .data file.

You could also trick it into thinking it is an address book archive by adding .abbu to the name of the AddressBook folder you copied from the old Mac. I don't know what it will do when you double-click on it, but if that doesn't work, try Import from Address Book File menu and point to the old addressbook folder.

I just tried what you did and it worked fine.

First, go into the 10.6 Application Support folder and delete the AddressBook folder. Then, copy the 10.4 AddressBook folder into App Support. Start Address Book.

If that doesn't work, I can only imagine that it doesn't like the file for some reason. The .previous files may have all (or most of) your contacts and work. Just rename a copy from .previous to .data.
