SSL Errors

I have separate accounts for my two kids and each of them just recently started having Safari problems when hitting HTTPS (SSL) web pages. (My account and my wife's do not have this problem.) We are all running v5.0.3 (6533.19.4). For example, when going to the Apple Login page they get an error saying "Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server to "support.apple.com" ". By looking in the Activity window for other SSL sites/pages, they get a number of errors like: "An ssl error has occurred and a secure connection..." for all the images on a page...they all have an https url. I've tried Chrome and it has similar problems..."Failed to load resource" messages in the javascript console.
So this seems to be more of a OS problem than specific browser. Maybe a Keychain problem? I'm not that familiar with Keychain yet so looking for some advice on how to further troubleshoot or better yet resolve. 🙂

Hi and welcome....

From the admin account.........

First, remove all Apple cookies from Safari / Preferences - Security.

Quit Safari (Command + Q) Relaunch Safari.

If that doesn't help, open Keychain Access /Applications/Utilities. Select Passwords on the left.

Delete this keychain: support.apple.com

Login to Apple Discussions with your AppleID user name and password.

See if that helps. If not, back in Keychain Access. Double click the support.apple.com keychain. Select the Access Control tab. If you don't see Safari in the window under: Always allow access by these applications, click + That will prompt a Finder window. Select Safari from the Applications folder then click Add.

Quit Safari, relaunch Safari. Try accessing Apple Discussions again.

Thanks for the quick reply Carolyn, but still having issues.

When you say from the Admin account, their accounts are not admins, they are managed accounts due to parental controls I have on them. I logged into their account and cleared cookies and restarted and same issue. I then went into Keychain but there is none for support.apple.com listed....not anywhere. I check on my account too btw (which is Admin) and I do not have that keychain listed either. I don't think the problem is specific to the Apple Discussions site as I have it on any https site...and with Safari or Chrome. It seems to be some OS related issue with their accounts or certificates.

Some additional info...I ran a test, I turned off Parental Controls on their accounts and the problem went away. I reenable Parental COntrols and the problem comes back. So something w/ P/Cs is causing issues with HTTPS (SSL) sites. Not sure how else to debug this.

I guess next step would be to create new accounts for them and delete these and see if it comes back. Is there an easy way to do that...or to copy their existing account? A way to also migrate their data to their new accounts?
