How to remove "From My PC" group under Contacts?

I don't know how this began to appear, because it was never there before. Ever since I noticed there was a new group titled "From My PC," it doesn't properly save my contacts if I add someone new.

If I simply add a new contact, the contact will show under "All Contacts" but it won't show under "My MobileMe Contacts," which is where I want it to show. And I don't like to have to go under "All Contacts" because it combines both my personal and business contacts, of which I have seperate groups set up for.

I don't even use PC contacts. I simply backed them up to Outlook a while back just in case.

When syncing contacts over the air with a MobileMe account on an iPhone, it isn't necessary to sync contacts direct with a supported address book application on your computer via the iTunes sync process. Since your Outlook contacts on your computer should be synced with your MobileMe online address book, doing both with your iPhone duplicates the contacts on your iPhone - one group "From My PC" are the contacts synced direct with Outlook via the iTunes sync process and stored locally on your iPhone, and the other group "My MobileMe Contacts" are not stored locally on your iPhone. The two groups are synced and stored separately with your iPhone.

To get rid of the duplicates and the "From My PC" group, deselect sync contacts under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by selecting Apply.

On your iPhone go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Select your MobileMe account. Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. A warning message will be provided indicating this will remove the contacts on your iPhone being synced over the air and a prompt to store the contacts locally on your iPhone. Decline the prompt to store the contacts locally on your iPhone.

This will not erase the contacts synced direct with Outlook via the iTunes sync process and stored locally on your iPhone.

Follow this by turning contacts back on for over the air syncing. You will be provided a merge prompt which you want to select.

This will get rid of the duplicates and the "From My PC" group.

Hi Allan,
I have the same "problem" on my iPhone, but I also don't have the options under my mail, contacts, calendar settings. The only option available to me is sort order and sort by.

I have synced and feathers, but it seems to be the same.

Could this be due to the 2 gmail via Microsoft exchange email accounts I have on the phone?

Thank you

Thank you Allan Sampson! the 'all from my PC' group has been annoying me for weeks along with the duplicates.. now all removed..

One other question though if I may..

I now have one location of contacts in hotmail, (spent hours cleaning it up after all the duplicate issues).. I have groups set up ie work, personal, wifes contacts etc but the IPAD doesn't seem to recognise them? ideally I select the groups I need in Itunes ie for my ipad 'work' and for my wifes iphone 'wifes contacts'? but having now deselcted the sync option on itunes and the groups not being recognised I don't know how to do it!

I am getting a lot of grief as the wife doesn't want all my info on her phone..!

Thx

Paul
