Disconnecting USB Hub

Hi all.

Im a brand new 17inch Macbook owner and know very little. I have bought a Belkin 7 port USB hub so i can connect all my devices to my macbook as I pretty much use it as a desktop replacement.

Connected to the hub will be:
* ext hard drive
* usb flash key
* iphone
* wireless logitech keyboard
* probably some other stuff down the line too.

I'm wondering how i disconnect the usb hub when i want to take my laptop somewhere. is it a matter of disconnecting each device or the hub itself?
The hub says it can do 'hot switching' but I have no idea what that means.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

The best practice way to go with this would be to "eject" anything that creates a shortcut on your desktop (HDD, USB Key, Iphone etc.) before removing anything.
Once you have done that, you can simply unplug the hub from your Mac.

Anything that can suffer from data loss, like storage devices of any sort should be ejected properly just in case it is being written to at the time of disconnection.

To eject just right click the icon on the desktop and choose "eject" the icon will then dissappear. They will remount when you connect it all up again, and the icons will reappear on your desktop.

Stuff like Keyboards and Mice can be plugged in/uplugged at will without harmfull consequences.

Hope this helps

Jerry
