Hmmm, have you updated the driver software for your drives?

Have you updated your OS to 10.4.3?

Why so little RAM? Do you know your performance will be better with another 2 GB or so added?

How many slices in the stripe? Perhaps it's too fast for the finder 🙂

Why do you need a stripe for? I hope your backing or cloning that baby up pretty often, stripes tend to die more often, taking your data with them.

the drive is brand new.. i had rthe same problem with the last one and they sent me a new one about two weeks ago and now this came up ever since i unplugged the thing accidentally. I think it is the actual fw 800 port because this drive is brand new and if they were to break everytime the comptuer were to unexpectanglely shut off, then thye are making some pieces of %$#@.. which i doubt because the old one lasted 5 months without breaking.. i think its the port?

so little ram cuz im broke. okay?

Can you see the drive in system profiler? If you can, then I imagine you screwed up the file system when you unplugged it accidentally.

If the system profiler can detect a device on the FW800 port, then you know the port is not dead. A corrupt file system will prevent it from mounting on the desktop nor show up in Finder.

Usually, unplugging a FW device accidently should not cause the port to go bad. The FW protocol is designed to be hot-pluggable (thus Hot-unpluggable) so there is always some sort of voltage/current going through it when you unplug it. The problem occurs at the logical level when you unplug without dismounting where the system does not finish recording the latest information in the structure tree and thus unable to recogize what's on the drive the next time you plug it in.

I've had this happen a couple of times with other external drives. I also have a G-RAID (exactly like yours) and it's been working fine.

Good luck
Sam

I have a G-RAID (800GB) and had the same problem with the sometimes mounting... sometimes not. I called the G-RAID manufacturers and was told this:

That the G-RAID is a high-speed hard drive that delivers faster than normal transfer. Therefore it likes to take all the connection your "built in" firewire ports have to offer. If you have no firewire items plugged in... you should see the G-RAID on the desktop. However, if you have a camera, another drive, etc... plugged in, your G-RAID will not mount rather than deliver less than optimum performance.

I was told to buy a seperate firewire PCI card and to use the G-RAID on that card ONLY. Mine was only $79, and easy to install. Since then, I've had no problems at all. And the G-RAID smokes with FCP, and other video editing APPS.

Hope this helps.
