iPhone 4 vers. 4.21 can't sync with non-upgradable 9.21 iTunes

So I've got a real puzzler here for you--

Thanks to a failed LCD screen not registering on my old 3G, I picked up a new iPhone 4 last night which has iOS 4.21 pre-installed.
I'm running OS 10.4.11 on my Powerbook of some six years. The software is as high as I can go as far as I know (it's pre-Intel).

Unfortunately, my iTunes--vers. 9.21--won't let me access anything, displaying the message "iPhone cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.1 or later." I can't run the 10.x version because it requires a higher OS which again, I can't run due to hardware limitations.

I tried using my computer's bluetooth connection to see about bypassing some of these issues. It found the phone, but it said the phone had "compatibility issues", despite the fact it's saying it's giving me access to my address book--but not allowing any data through.

Now according to the official iTunes 9.21 download site ( http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1056), it's 10.4.11 compatible, and allows iPhone 4 access.

Any possible solutions other than "upgrade your OS"?--because 1. I'm beyond broke--the phone tapped into finances I didn't want to touch and 2. I can't upgrade on my computer as is.

Sorry, no.

4.2.1 requires itunes 10.1 which requires 10.5.8 or later. Can you not update to 10.5 ( leopard)? This does not require intel Mac.

From the box the iphone 4 came in and the website:

"Mac system requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 10.1 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
iTunes Store account
Internet access"

Ah HA! See, the 10.5 is not required for ALL features for iPhone 4--from the site:
"Mac OS X version 10.5 or later is required to play an iTunes LP or iTunes Extras".
I neither have nor need either of these features. It does say before that "Mac OS X version 10.4.11 or later" is all that's required.

Also, why does the site say: "iTunes 9.2 comes with several new features and improvements, including:

* Sync with iPhone 4 to enjoy your favorite music, movies, TV shows, books and more on-the-go"?

So why would it say this if you can't use it?

Also, where could I find the spec requirements for this 10.5 and for that matter download it if possible? Every time I try to look for an upgrade on the OS, it says that it's as high as my computer could go.

This should tell you what you need to run 10.1 which is required for iphone 4 according to the box the iphone came in and the tech specs on the website.

If your computer can upgrade to 10.5, then you can call the Apple store 800-my apple and order it. They can probably tell you if your computer can run it as well.
