hp d110 connect problems

On printer window make sure wireless updates is turned on and latest update has been downloaded. Neither Applecare or HP were able to tell me about this easy fix. It probably holds true for other e-printers as well.

ipad, iOS 4

So at least one of the problems on this thread was that the Printer's firmware was not up to date, and fixing that issue resolves things. You can have the printer check for updates via the front of the printer. Go to:

Setup (the item that looks like a wrench)->Web->Automatic Updates->Check for Product Updates

This will force the printer go out and search for a firmware update right away. This update is needed for the D110 to support AirPrint.

A second issue is that printing through an AirPort base station with the Printer connected via USB is not supported. There may also be some issues with adding the Printer automatically via WPS, although I have had that work without a problem, but occasionally I need to power cycle the AirPort to get it working again. You can also add the Printer to the wireless network from the front panel, or by using the software installer that came with the device and a USB cable connected to the device. Any one of these mechanisms should work.

Finally, as for the issue of only one device or the other finding the Printer at a time, I have a question, and this may or may not have anything to do with the issue, does the iPad have bluetooth enabled? There are some people reporting that turning off bluetooth fixed their discovery issues.

Also note, that depending on your router, if your printer is up to date, and you still can't find it, there may be a problem with the router not passing the Bonjour packets through. This is obviously not a problem with the Apple routers.

Just trying to help.

I have the exact same problem, found out that ,I had both my itouch and iPad on line at same time discounted the itouch ( shut it right down) and my HP photosmart d110 finds and keeps the printer on the iPad.. Then if I completely shut down the iPad, turn on itouch I then can see print on itouch.. Doesn't sound like a printer problem, doesn't sound like a router problem, but an Apple problem... Try it and let me know...

The D110 is on the list of printers. however, it is unable to connect to an Airport Extreme. The HP website is full of people who could not fix the problem. The printer is supposed to work with WPS (which the AE cannot provide0 or WEP (but this really doesn't work on the AE) The USB-based utility cannot get WPA to work on the AE. You are pretty much out of luck until Apple supports using shared printers via airprint. On the other hand, the CM1415fnw does work (but you must set it up using the on-board webserver and a wired connection, not the USB utility.

Well first off, you posted the same message to three different threads, second your question is about HP iPrint Photo, not AirPrint, which is what these forums are for supporting. HP does have its own forums, and there is even one where questions like this are answered.

That being said, here is how you can get to the scans you have done.

1) Connect your iPad to your Mac/PC, open iTunes, click on the Apps tab, and scroll down to the File Sharing section. Now select HP iPrint, and you will see two folders, Documents and Images. Select the folder it is saved in a select Save to... This will allow you to save the file somewhere on your computer and you can do with it as you please.

2) On your iPad, open HP iPrint, and select the Saved Files at the top. If your scan is saved as an image, select the Images folder then click on your image. At the bottom, click the Move button, and select Photo Album. You scan will now be in your library and you can include it easily from an email on your iPad.

3) On your iPad, open HP iPrint and select saved files at the top. Select your the folder where your file is saved and turn on Sharing. This will let you connect to the App remotely to grab the file you want to load. You can then do with it as you please.

These are the three options you have for saving a Scanned file after you have it inside of HP iPrint Photo.

Hi Andrew,

First of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to respond!! I did what you said and I now have a file on my desktop with the 3 document scans in it. After that I went on my ipad and opened up Iprint like you said and went into saved files, opened a scan and the "move" tab is greyed out. I think that is the problem, but the question is why is it greyed out. I want to be able to scan wirelessly (which I can now) using my phone as a hotspot if for example I am on vacaiton and not near my home computere it is synced with. There has to be a way to do it. If you are unable to assist because this is an airptint formu and not and I or Eprint forum,, thank you for your time and efforts which I greatly appreciate.

If you Scan as a Document instead of an Image, the Move button will be grayed out since PDF's can't be put into the systems Photo Album. I should have stated that more clearly in my instructions. The only ways to get PDF's off of the iPad is using the iTunes method or the Share method. I think for the workflow you are trying to achieve, scanning as Image instead of Document will get you what you want. If you're still having problems, feel free to post back and I'll see what I can do.

Just trying to help.

Ok thanks...well I guess that answers my question. We can scan and move images but not PDF which doesn't help me because all my clients and websites I upload files to can only take PDF documents. I believe it is the software from hp combined with the os on apple that is not working to it's fullest. I can do it with my other laptop with windows vista but I was trying to avoid carrying around 2 computers and my laptop is really slow. Is there a way or a program to print to PDF after I save the scans as images and move them?

From the Mac, yes quite easily. From Windows, using the tools from Adobe. From the iOS device, there are some Apps from EuroSmartz (you can check my [FAQ thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2658560&tstart=0] for more information) that allow you to Print to a PDF from your iPhone. The primary limitation is that on the iPad there is no shared file system, only a shared Photo library. So there is really no way for us to export the PDF's to other applications on the iPad itself.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for all your help!! I also just purchased Iprinting HD hoping it would give me the option to print my photos/images to a pdf format but am having no luck with it. I looked through all the software you suggested and didnt really find anything that may do that. If you come across any software that will do this, I would greatly appreciate if you would let me know. Right now, what I am doing is scanning it as an image, then I email it to myself as an image, then I connect to my home pc remotely using logmein igition. I print the image to pdf on my home computer and then email it to the recipient. Hopefully there will be an easier way sometime in the future. I am able to scan perfectly and wirelessly using paperport 12 on my home computer with windows 7 64bit and it scans as a pdf file so it is definately an apple ipad software issue. Hopefully, someone out there knows of a software that will work for my purposes. Thanks again!!
