Trouble streaming music directly from iPhone

Hi, I recently purchased the AirPort Express. It works great streaming music directly from my PC to my stereo via iTunes. I am able to stream music directly from my iPhone to my stereo, but only when my PC is on. I intermittently lose the AE icon in the iPod app when my PC is turned off. Is that normal?

Wireless router is a Linksys WRT100
PC is running Windows 7
Firm on the AirPort is up-to-date
Running iTunes 10.1.1

No, it is not! Your iPod Touch (I am assuming that is what you have) does not require another iTunes host running in order to stream audio to the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn).

The minimum requirements for AirPlay is:
o iPod Touch (2nd generation or later)
o AXn w/firmware 7.4.2 or later

I think that she may be right.

I order for the home sharing to work between devices for streaming, you have to tell each device your Apple ID.

The AppleID is tied to iTunes and your iTunes library. We have an AppleTV on our home network and without iTunes going, it cannot play any TV show seasons that we have purchased.

I could be wrong, just thinking out loud here so go easy on me. 🙂

Thanks! Your point is a good one, but it really only pertains when using the iTunes Home Sharing feature. I don't believe the OP is addressing having an issue with that, but instead with the ability to stream from their iPhone to the AirPort Express.

Sorry, I referenced the iPod Touch, I meant to say iPhone. Is your iPhone a 3GS (not 3G or earlier) or 4 model? Regardless, is it running iOS 4.2+? If both are true, then you should be able to stream directly from your iPhone to the AirPort Express. I have verified this using the Music App on my iPod Touch.
