Samsung Phone not recognized

I have a Samsung Fascinate Galaxy S phone that I am trying to transfer pictures over to my Mac. I plug the phone into the Mac, turn it on, but the IPhoto does not recognize it. The phone beeps, but the Mac, nothing. I also have a MacBook Pro 17' that I tried it on and it does the same thing. I bought the 13" at the end of November and it has the latest and greatest versions of Snow Leopard and ILife. Any help on getting it to transfer over?

MacBook Pro 13", Mac OS X (10.6.5)

I just recently bought the iMac and also have a samsung fascinate. I am having a difficult time trying to transfer photos as well. I've tried pairing it with the bluetooth, but it will only pair the phone and not connect with the phone, saying the phone does not have everything it needs to connect. Have you yet figured out a way to fix this problem? If so advice would be great. I've never had Mac before and its hard getting used to. Thanks in advance.

hi peeps,

i just recently got a samsung note. Had the same issue with my mac recognising the external storage. Basically i think it's just a problem of the sequence it's done. I've tried multiple times and it works.

Basically what you need to do

1) your mobile should not be connected to your mac first

2) go to phone settings > storage > USB Utilities

3) try clicking the connect usb (at this point the phone would prompt you to connect your usb to the com)

4) Do exactly as it says and VIOLA you phone is connected!!

Hope it helps.

This may fix it
(with USB disconnected)
Go to 'Settings' on the Fascinate, choose 'SD card & phone settings' then 'Unmount SD card'
Power off the Fascinate
Power back on and got to 'Settings' again, choose 'USB settings', select 'Ask on connection'
Power off and back on (can't remember if this is necessary but can't hurt!)
then connect USB, should hear the Mac recognise the connection and Fascinate should ask if you want to use 'Media player' or 'Mass storage' ('Mass storage is what you want') Mac should then recognise the device as external storage.
If this works please tweet #Froyogate to @VZWSupport help us all get Froyo on our Fascinate.

I hope you have found the solution by now, but I don't see the answer in any of these posts. In fact, I came here a few minutes ago looking for the answer myself, but stumbled on it by accident.

I did try the "unmount SD card" procedure suggested by SCGeordie, but that didn't work for me. Note that I still had the USB cable plugged in, the Samsung Galaxy asked me which USB connection, and I did select "Mass Storage". Unfortunately, the iMac never saw the Samsung.

I decided at this point to attempt Bluetooth, so I went to the top of the samsung screen, and enabled Bluetooth (USB cable still connected). At that point, the Samsung phone asked me if I wanted to mount the phone for storage transfer to the "PC". I hit mount, and it appeared on the Mac.

The problem appears to be a Galaxy issue. Not sure why enabling bluetooth brought up the mount option, but that is what we have been missing.

Good Luck!

Hi Pok Chi:

I had a similar issue with a usb jump drive when I was running VMWare fusion. I ejected the usb drive from VMWare and then forgot to eject from the iMac itself, and from that point on the iMac would not recognize the drive properly.

I completely powered down the iMac, removed all the power sources, waited 60 seconds (for all the caps in the computer to discharge) and powered it back up. It recognized the drive w/o problem after that.

I can't explain why it worked, it seems a little "black magic" to me, but you may try if nothing else works.

Good Luck!

No, it didn't work.

This worked:

I am also a Macuser and very happy with the Galaxy S, much better than a certain Apple-madeunit that can't make phone calls...!I do not "sync" with the phone asexperience of bilateral data transfer is usually a disaster waiting to happen, and you will not know what has been lost until you need it. For example, youcreate a new record on the device, and it is there not on the Mac. Should iSyncthen remove it off the device (lose the data) to match the records on the Mac?Although the answer is clear in theory, some "sync" softwares tend toget confused.
For the Address Book, I do the following:
1) Open Address Book and select the contacts Iwant, usually held in a group called "Phone" to make it easier.
2) Export the records as a "vcf"file. Save to the Desktop to make it easier.
3) Assuming your phone is paired, select the"Browse (your phone name)..." from the Bluetooth menu.
4) Send the "vcf" file to the phone.
5) On the phone, open "My Files"which is the built-in file manager to check the file has arrived and itslocation to remember for future.
6) Open Contacts and then delete all theexisting Contacts as you will be replacing them.
7) Select Import/Export and then select fromSD card.
8) Select your VCF file that you sent to thephone and job done.
For Notes and stuff, I keep a text file on theMac. This can be edited and sent to the phone in the same way. On the phone, Ican edit it and pull it back the same way such as with new contact names readyto put it the Mac. Can keep lots of files for different purposes, Reminders,Shopping Lists, To Do Lists, etc.
Similarly, for database stuff, I keep themaster on the Mac and "print to pdf" from the Print dialog box. Theresulting PDF is sent to the phone and opens in "PDF Reader" (freefrom Android Market). The built-in Adobe PDF Reader is fast but does not allowsearching. the "PDF Reader" allows searching. I have an 800 page PDFwith 3 records per page. It can search all 800 pages for some text in about 5seconds to reach the 800th page which is fast enough for my daily use and a lotquicker than trying to do SQL dumps etc.
Have not tried the iCal export but presume itwould follow the same process. Export from iCal as a vCal file, send to phone, and import into Calendar?
This may sound cumbersome, but it keeps datasafe, easily backed-up on your Mac, and it is a lot easier once you are used toit. If it was more complex, I would have created an AppleScript to do the gruntwork. It is actually easier to do it just from the above steps.
Hope it helps, and from what I gather, you andI are the only Mac people here!

I got my address book transfer!

Many thnaks, Ed.

@ pok chi. Just tried the link and that doesn't work! Safari just says it can't connect to the server.

My case: Bought a Samsung Galaxy SII last week. Tried Kies Air over wifi and it connected perfectly to my Macbook Pro the first time, excatly how it should. SInce then, I've upgraded to the latest Android version 2.3.5 and neither Kies Air or Kies Mini will work.

Will try the Bluetooth route as suggested by analogue_ed, but this is getting quite frustrating...

Good news! I have had the same problems with trying to get the photos from my samsung fascinate to my macbook pro. I FINALLY got it! Using the Bluetooth pair the phone and the mac. Then FROM THE PHONE go to your gallery and select all the pictures you want to transfer. Click Share and choose bluetooth. Then from your mac it will ask if you want to accept these files.

FYI, you DO have to have Bluetooth sharing enabled in your system preferneces/sharing. The pics went to my download folder, imported them into iphone and whala! I have been working on this forever and am so excited to finally figure it out! Hope it helps all of you.

I think this is the simplest way for anyone else interested in this.

I have been able to do it via bluetooth on my Macbook Pro, but not iMac. Same issue as many others.

So, I connected via USB, clicking YES when it warns it will disable other things.

I then open up the Kies application, which you can download.

It will show you when you are connected, in the panel on the left. Once connected, click on Pictures, which will show all of the photos on your phone.

Even though it is a Mac, click Save to PC. It will save to the Samsung directory, which will be on your home drive (where downloads etc are saved to), in a directory within that called photos. (Just search Samsung, if you can't find it, to see where it is hiding).

Do the same for videos, music and anything else.

Took and seems no one way is consistent!!
