Which BootCamp update should I get? If any.

I just purchased this 17" MBP i5 and am about to use BootCamp for Windows XP Home Edition. Step 1 says to check at http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp for updates. There are several updates for several things. I see BootCamp 3.1 update (for Windows 7) & 3.2 update (requires 3.1) and others. I'm not sure if they apply to me or not. The information for the version of BootCamp in my Applications menu is 3.0.2. Should I update from there for my situation? If so, which update(s) should I get?
ThankU, Merry Christmas, & happy new year,
DarrellSY

These updates are driver updates only and are to be applied after the installation of XP and the driver installation from the OSX DVD and while in Windows.

That's the version of the BootCamp Assistant ! and not to be confused with the driver updates.

Before applying any kind of driver updates you should either have/make a backup of your Windows or at least set a "System Restore Point" in Windows for easy reverting if needed.

The proposed update path from Apple would be to first install the 3.1 driver update and then the 3.2 driver update.

However, since you just bought your MBP the OSX DVD that came with it might already have the 3.2 drivers on it.
So, install the drivers from that disc first and then see what updates are shown in WIndows (using the Apple Software Update while in WIndows).

Same to you

Thanks Stefan,
I should have noticed that Boot Camp Assistant & Boot Camp are two different items. I currently do not have the OS X disk with me. We are currently in different U. S. states.
Based on what u explained, step one seems confusing, or unnecessary, if installing with a new MBP with all OS X updates. Is it possible to check what version of Boot Camp is currently installed on the MBP before partitioning?
It seems like you mean to put n the OS X disc for possible driver updates after XP has been installed and is operational while n XP. Is that correct?
Thanks

Then don't even think about starting the partitioning / Windows installation.
Without the correct drivers from the OSx disc XP won't be nearly unuseable.
The 3.1 and 3.2 driver downloads only work if the drivers from the OSX disc are already installed.

Only the version of the BootCamp Assistant but not the version of the Windows drivers on the OSX disc.
Personally I would download the 3.1 and the 3.2 driver packages and put them on a USB-Stick for easy access later on (if needed at all).

The correct procedure is to partition your harddisk using the BootCamp Assistant, then install Windows and then insert the OSX disc while in WIndows to install the drivers from that disc.
After that you can/should look for updates using the Apple Software Utility while in WIndows.

Thanks
